“This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind.” Ephesians 4:17
Apart from God’s transforming grace, the sinful human mind always gravitates towards vanity (futility, emptiness). Not only has the curse of sin affected the heart, but very much also the mind. Proverbs 16:25 says it well, “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death”.
Paul says, “Don’t live that way.” Jesus called us to love Him, among other things, with our minds. We do this by thinking the way He thinks! And, we know how He thinks by looking to His Word.
How do you look at the world? What informs decisions, of all kinds, that you make? What carries the heaviest weight with you—popular opinion, your own feelings or God’s Word? May our minds be saturated with the Scriptures, and therefore equipped to walk not in vanity, but with true purpose and meaning.
