ON GIVING

The average person who gives money, gifts, or charity to others may think that this gift or whatever he gives should be regarded as LOSS, certainly not called ASSETS nor INVESTMENT nor GAIN. This is NOT SO! Gifts, money and alms given to others is no more loss than the SEED planted by a farmer is loss. Anything given to others in the name of Christ, for the glory of our Lord, is not loss but gain in every way. Our Lord said in Luke 6:38, “Give and it shall be given unto you...for with the same measure that you use, it shall be given to you.” This is saying that God uses the same container or measure for His gifts to us as we use to give to others. The more generous the farmer is with the seed, the greater the harvest; and the more generous and loving and giving we are enabled to be, the greater the blessing. Giving is not loss but great gain! A person may say, “I can’t afford to give.” If we have an understanding of the Grace of God, we can’t afford NOT to give

Pastor Henry Mahan

Faith is nothing more or less than agreeing with God about who I am (a sinner) and what I have done (nothing but sin) and who Christ is (God’s Son) and what He has done (given His life a ransom for many). God entrusted the souls of His chosen people to His Son, the Lord Jesus. When we trust the Son of God to save us, all we are doing is putting the same confidence in Christ that God did. God’s trust was well-placed, for the Lord boasted (and the Father did not contradict Him) “Those you gave me I have kept, and none of them is lost.” And we may have the same confidence that, if we entrust ourselves to Christ, He will not lose us, but will raise us up in the last day.

Pastor Joe Terrell

GOOD FOR ME

David wrote in Psalm 119:71 “It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.”

No honest person will say they look forward to trials. Trials are not joyous, but grievous (Heb 12:11). While no believer enjoys trials, we are thankful for the fruit a trial produces. Through trials we experience truths that cannot be learned outside the furnace of trial and affliction. In times of trial, we learn that the Word of God is more than mere words.

Trials teach us:

  1. That God’s grace truly is sufficient (II Corinthians 12:9-10). I have always believed that God’s grace is sufficient because I read it in God’s Word. But after the Lord sent hard trials I KNEW by experience that God’s grace is sufficient.
  2. How precious the presence of the Lord is (Isaiah 43:2).
  3. That we do not have the strength to endure any trial, yet we will endure because the Lord gives grace and strength sufficient for the hour (Philippians 4:13).
  4. Boldness in the face of trouble because we have learned the Lord is always with His people and we learn to depend even more fully on Him (Hebrews 13:5-6).
  5. How valuable the Lord Jesus Christ really is to our soul and the true value of earthly treasures (Psalm 119:72).
  6. Patience to wait on the Lord and an increased hope in the Lord (Romans 5:3-5).
  7. How to comfort others in their trials (II Corinthians 1:3-4).

The purest and most valuable gold has spent more time in the refiner’s fire (Job 23:10). When the Lord calls us to go through His refining fire, our comfort is that He is with us and we are learning valuable lessons that will be for our good and the glory of our Redeemer.

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

Psalm 19:7
