THE LORD WITH US
TUNE TO “My Faith Has Found...” CM/DOUBLE
Words by Jim Byrd
1. O wondrous story, joyful sound.
The Lord from heaven came;
Lift up His praise forevermore,
Exalt His precious Name.
Eternal Word, the Son of God,
The King of kings is He;
And yet He joined Himself to us,
In our humanity.

2. Emmanuel, the Lord with us,
This wonder let us tell,
That God the everlasting Son,
Was born with man to dwell.
Christ came to save us from our sin,
By death on Calvary;
And by His blood and righteousness,
We are from sin set free.

3. O mighty Savior, Prince of Peace,
Almighty, sovereign Lord;
We gather here with hungry souls,
To hear Thy holy Word.
Send forth the Spirit of Thy grace,
To bless the gospel seed;
Exalt Thyself within each heart,
And meet our ev’ry need.

“Sing unto the LORD, all the earth;
shew forth from day to day His salvation.
Declare His glory among the heathen;
His marvelous works among all nations.
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised:
He also is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the people are idols:
but the LORD made the heavens.”
(1 CHRONICLES 16:23-26)

USE YOUR TIME WISELY
Thomas Edison once said, “time is not a commodity that can be stored for future use. It must be invested hour by hour, or else it is gone forever.” Let us make diligent and wise use of whatever time God gives us. Paul admonished us, “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:16). What a precious thing time is. Let us not squander it away. Is there a God to be worshiped, reverenced and adored? Let me worship, reverence and adore Him now. Is there a blessed Redeemer to be trusted? Let me trust Him now. Is there a glorious gospel of redeeming grace to be listened to and believed? Let me listen to and believe that gospel now. Are their insignificant personal differences with someone that I need to put aside? Let me put them aside now. Are there words of kindness and appreciation I need to speak? Let me speak those words now. Is there someone I have been intending to visit? Let me visit them now. Is there forgiveness I need to show? Let me show that forgiveness now. There are no do-overs with regard to this life. “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest” (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Time killed cannot be resurrected; time lost will never be found.
– Pastor Jim Byrd

PROPHET, PRIEST AND KING
The offices which Christ sustains toward us are such as have been in the highest repute among men. Prophets, priests, and kings have always been accounted worthy of honor. We should give the highest honor to Christ, Who, as a prophet, is superior to Moses; as a priest, superior to Aaron; and as a king, the Lord of David. These offices, as exercised by Christ, deserve our honor, not only because of their excellence, but also because of their adaptedness to us. We are, by nature, ignorant, guilty, and depraved. As ignorant, we need Christ the Prophet to teach us; as guilty, we need Christ the Priest to make atonement for us; and as depraved, we need Christ the King to rule over us, and bring all our rebellious passions into subjection. These offices of Christ are also adapted to the graces which distinguish and adorn the Christian character. The chief of these, as enumerated by Paul, are faith, hope, and love. In the exercise of faith, we receive the truth, revealed by Christ, the Prophet. In the exercise of hope, we follow Christ, the Priest, Who has entered into the holiest of all to appear before God for us. And we submit to Christ the King in the exercise of love, which is the fulfilling of the law, the principle and sum of all holy obedience.
–J. L. Dagg

LOVE FOR CHRIST
No joy on earth is equal to the bliss of being all taken up with love to Christ. If I had my choice of all the lives that I could live, I certainly would not choose to be an emperor, nor to be a millionaire, nor to be a philosopher, for power and wealth and knowledge bring with them sorrows. But I would choose to have nothing to do but to love my Lord Jesus-, nothing I mean, but to do all things for His sake, and out of love to Him. – C. H. Spurgeon
