¹² For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Those given ears to hear, and grace to believe, continue to receive grace upon grace (John 1:16) to know the LORD Jesus Christ, and His saving work accomplished for sinners. The objects of God’s grace can never know enough of Him, or too much. They grow in grace because of their need of grace and clearer knowledge of Christ and His Gospel, 2 Peter 3:18. By contrast, ‘whosoever hath not,’ or as Luke 8:18 states, ”who seemeth to have,” by man-made profession and knowledge, even that will be taken from him/her. Everything besides the unconditional, free grace of God given by the Spirit to those for whom Christ paid the debt, is only a synthetic light, which is not true light at all. Head knowledge, mere theological speculation, and a natural-minded holding to scripture is not evidence of knowing Christ and therefore temporal at best, and a delusive, damnable hope. ¹³ Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. How vital then to be given ears to hear by the Spirit of God, Matthew 11:15! To be left to oneself, to see and not see, hear and not hear, is a judicial blindness that the LORD has exercised over those who trust in themselves that they are righteous, given to a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge, Romans 10:1,2. May the LORD graciously cause us to see our own lost estate without the LORD Jesus, and grace to look to Him exclusively, and rest in His blood shed and righteousness imputed for salvation at Calvary once for all.
