What are your goals in life? We all have them, and if we were to take a survey of everyone reading this devotion, chances are, we would find out that our goals are very similar. Most people want to live meaningful, productive, godly lives, and experience contentment. This passage gives us wise counsel, directing us in our life pursuits. The wisdom we receive here is, do not be driven by the idea of becoming rich, and stop listening to yourself. If we aren’t careful, we can talk ourselves into just about anything can’t we? This is precisely why God directs us to seek wisdom from Him, not our own reason and logic. The next verse will tell us why we shouldn’t obsess over money, but today, Solomon tells us how. We are all weak, vulnerable, and foolish when left to ourselves. If we would be wise, we must learn to stop listening to ourselves, and look to Christ, in His Word, for wisdom and guidance.
