The words "look and live" are in my heart this morning. Moses told the children of Israel in Numbers 21:8, to "look and live," and the song writer William Ogden wrote:
I’ve a message from the Lord, hallelujah! This message unto you I’ll give, ’Tis recorded in His word, hallelujah! It is only that you “look and live.”
Refrain: “Look and live,” my brother, live, Look to Jesus now, and live; ’Tis recorded in His word, hallelujah! It is only that you “look and live.”
I am thankful that I have looked to Jesus and that I now have eternal life. Praise His Name!
Please don't forget to pray for those who are lost in need of Jesus, pray for those who are in need of spiritual revival, pray for those who are bound in their sin, and pray for those who are in need of either physical or emotional healing.
Joshua 4:23-24, "For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over. 24That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever."
I love to read about the different miracles in the Bible. In today's verses God led the people across the Jordan River on dry ground as He had done before with the Red sea. This miracle wasn't done primarily for the purpose of making the journey into the promised land easier, NO IT HAD A GREATER PURPOSE. What is the great purpose for miracles? First and foremost their purpose is to elevate the position of God in the life of a person so that person might believe that God is all powerful. John the Apostle states in John 20:30-31, "And many other signs (miracles) truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name." The man born blind in John 9, was born blind so that the result of his miraculous healing would be the elevation and glory of God in the minds of those who would see this miracle. Jesus said in John 9:3 this man's healing was in order that "...the works of God should be made manifest in him." Today's text points to this same great purpose, "That all the people of the earth (this includes you and me) might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever."
God desires to get our attention concerning His power and greatness. He alone deserves our worship and service because He alone is the Almighty God. May we live our lives with a great reverential fear for the LORD who loves us and who gave His life for us.
