But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith! – Luke 12:28
There is a word of reproof here in the last part of this verse. Jesus says to this crowd, “You men of little faith!” The truth is, it is not a lack of provision that was their problem; it was their lack of faith that was the problem. They had God incarnate with them. When He's present, provision is present.
We must learn that anxiety is cured not by obtaining additional earthly goods, but by attaining genuine faith. Could God be holding back on some "things" you feel you need until you obtain the faith? I really believe there is something to this. I’ve seen this pattern in my own life. God gets me to a place of brokenness where I can say from my heart, “God, You are my joy. Even though I’d like to have this or that, YOU are my joy.” I have found that given a little time, God often provides the "things" I desired but only after I come to the place in my faith where I don't have to have them! I no longer have to have them because I have Him. I believe there’s a real pattern to that.
Now, sometimes He doesn’t give me "things" I desire because it would not have been good for me and glorifying to Him. He knows best. It’s amazing how He gives you the stuff your heart may want when you surrender it and tell Him that He’s your all in all.
You see, anxiety is simply the belief that wealth is safer than God. Let that sink in. Anxiety is simply the belief that wealth is safer than God. He is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent, and He’s always on top of everything. He neglects and forgets nothing, whether it’s the ravens of the air (v.24) or the flowers of the field. And He certainly does not neglect His elect children!
