PRAISE THE NAME OF JESUS
Tune to "AT CALVARY" 9.9.9.4. W/CHORUS
Words by JIM BYRD

1. Son of God, one of the trinity,
Joined to man, O what a mystery;
Came to earth by covenant decree.
O praise His Name!

Chorus: Jesus died for all His family,
Paid our debt of sin at Calvary;
By His grace He saves eternally,
O praise His Name.

2. On the cross He suffered agony,
Died from sin to set His people free;
All alone He won the victory,
O praise His Name! Chorus

3. Now for us the Savior intercedes,
Unto Him the Holy Spirit leads;
Every blessing from His throne proceeds,
O praise His Name! Chorus

4. Soon will come the long-awaited day,
Christ will come and take His bride away;
Never from His blessed side to stray,
We’ll praise His Name. Chorus

5. Then together in a perfect place,
All the ransomed shall behold His face;
Evermore to sing of sovereign grace,
And praise His Name! Chorus

GETTING OLDER
"The hoary head is a crown of glory,
if it be found in the way of righteousness."
(Proverbs 16:31)

Let us correct our attitude toward getting older. Believers must not allow the carnal thinking of this world to form our opinions and attitudes. The reason so much emphasis is placed on youth, physical strength and beauty, riches and possessions is because this is all that the worldling has and when these are gone—all is gone! Actually age, while it mars outward beauty, should bring us real lasting beauty—which is inward grace, mercy and peace! Age will decrease our physical strength but should increase our spiritual strength. We grow in faith, love and patience. Age may make our arms weak and trembly, but it should establish us more firmly on the everlasting arm. Age may make the present less sure but it gives us assurance of the certainty of the future. I’ll always be young in Christ! My steps may be slower but I walk with the King. My eyes may be dimmer but as I see less of the world I see more of my Lord. My ears may be dull but I hear His voice more clearly. My body may be weak but I am stronger in faith. I may not know the latest story but I know the old, old story a little better. I may not be surrounded by as many human admirers but I am surrounded by a heavenly host which waits to take me home! –Henry T. Mahan

"The Father loveth the Son,
and hath given all things
into His hand."
(John 3:35)

OUR INTERCESSOR
"Who is He that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us" (Romans 8:34). Our Lord Jesus Christ has fully accomplished His great work of redemption, substitution and sacrifice. He has already suffered, bled and died, "the Just for the unjust to bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:17). Christ did not remain in heaven, pitying us from a distance, but came and was "obedient unto death, even the death of the cross" (Philippians 2:8) by which He put away our sins, saved us from the curse of the law, justified us by His imputed righteousness and rescued us from Satan’s captivity. He arose, ascended and now sits at the right hand of the majesty on high.

Though the reconciliation of His people is finished, Christ is still active in heaven for us as our Intercessor. We have a glorious Advocate and Mediator between God and us, One who is always representing us and our eternal interests before the Father. He sees to it that the benefits of His death are applied to all those for whom they were designed. It is because of Him that we are constantly accepted by the Father, for God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, always mindful of the blood of His Son. Christ prays for us, not to supplicate an angry Judge, for God’s anger against our sins has been pacified by the Savior’s death, but rather He prays that we will be provided with daily supplies of mercy and grace, and His prayers are always answered. As the Old Testament high-priest carried the names of the tribes of Israel upon his breastplate and shoulders, so our Great High-Priest carries the names of all His elect upon His heart, the place of love, and upon His shoulders, the place of power and authority. When we worship and serve the Lord, He presents those feeble efforts to the Father and our worship and service is made acceptable to God by Him. We are closely monitored by our Savior so that He is always aware of every detail of our lives and sees to it that all things fulfill His purpose and work together for our spiritual good. Christ our Elder Brother is our Intercessor in the court of heaven, and He represents all of His earthly brethren. "What a Friend we have in Jesus!" –Pastor Jim Byrd
