“ And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts. And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.” II Samuel 6:18, 19 David’s joy was overflowing. The ark of God had returned to the tabernacle after many years and it was a day of celebration. As should be the case with us, David’s joy in the Lord translated into him blessing others. You can almost see the smile on his face as he gives meat, bread, and wine to each individual. Do you have such joy in the Lord? Does your joy in Him remain housed just within your own heart, or does it flow out from you as well? Oh, that our lives would be like that of Abraham, that God would bless us, but also make us
The people must have said that day of David, “What a gracious, generous king we have over Israel!” and they did. But, Christian, remember that you have such a King as well. King Jesus delights to give graciously to His people various gifts and graces. The best gift of all is Himself. He is our bread and meat that sustains the soul. He is our wine that makes our hearts glad. These gifts weren’t only to a select few, but David gave to all the citizens of the kingdom, “every one.” It matters not who you are, where you’re from, or what your background consists of. Christ graciously bestows these gifts to true believers, the citizens of His kingdom. Look to Him today. He is a generous King to His subjects.
