On the Wrong Side - Broadcast for February 19, 2013
It’s always a shock when a trusted friend betrays you. David expressed it well when he said: Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. Ps. 41:9. We all have people we trust, but, what if they don’t help you when you need it the most? What if they testify against you?
In John 5:45 we read: Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust. The leading men of Jesus day were on the wrong side, rejecting Jesus as their Messiah and thinking that Moses would save them. Their version of salvation called for rigorous adherence to the law of Moses and the traditions of the fathers. They thought they were saved because they were the offspring of Abraham, the teachers of the law and the inheritors of the promise. But the promise was standing before them and they didn't believe in Him. (John 5:45 NKJV)
They trusted in Moses and so it would be the words of Moses that would testify against them. All that God had revealed through Moses and the Prophets was rejected by the men of that day in favor of their own interpretations and traditions. I have a coin inscribed: “In God We Trust.” It is a testimony that our nation have decided to put our trust in God. But many have rejected this saying and publicly affirm that they don’t trust in God. What will testify against them on the day they stand in judgment? It will be whatever they have trusted in. Are you on the right side of eternity? Do you trust in God? Have you received His Son Jesus and the forgiveness of sin? Don’t wait until it’s too late to believe.
