As we all know, the Promised King was born, not in a palace as expected, but in a barn with stinky animals. Would any of us have planned it that way? So many of the stories in my own life have gone so unexpectedly that I like to say, "God always comes in the back door."
Please continue to pray for the Pastoral Search Committee, that we look at each candidate through God's lens, not our own. Pray that we would be willing to look in a direction that is perhaps unexpected. The prophet Samuel looked at Jesse's eldest son and proclaimed, "Surely the Lord's anointed stands here before the Lord."....Done deal....Search over.
But Samuel had to consider and pass over quite a few brothers before Gods' revealed choice of David became apparent. Luckily Samuel had a practiced ear for hearing God's voice.
Perhaps our committee could be described as coming as far as Jesse's place.....with a series of very worthy candidates passing in front of us. Now, to have the discernment that God blessed Samuel with and ears practiced to hear His voice:
1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
I know about this time you all may be feeling a little weary...it's human and the process is challenging to say the least. I just want to assure you that your church family will not faint and we will continue to lift each one of you up in prayer. Please be encouraged, as you are well aware the Lord knows the man, continue to pray fervently together as a team that He would direct you to the one that He has called.
Sometimes it is difficult to be patient when one longs for answers to what the future holds. To be patient is to endure discomfort without complaint. Not an easy task. I think of what Moses had to hear while wondering in the desert or what was going through Paul's mind as he lay in prison. I do know that these men waited on the Lord and the world has never been the same. What may seem like an eternity to you is really just a blink of an eye for the Lord. Keep your eyes on the Kingdom of Heaven and do not fret b/c you feel lost in the desert or feel trapped in a monotonousness routine. God will deliver you and your patience will be rewarded. God Bless!
