If the Lord Wills - Broadcast for February 4, 2013
A friend of mine was making plans to expand his ministry and make some rather large changes in his life. In the course of conversing I ask him if he had prayed about it. He answered, no why should I? He lived with a fatalistic assumption that whatever he planned to do was God's will and that God would bless it.
In James 4:15 we read: Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” (James 4:15 NKJV) In the pursuit of happiness it is easy to forget to include God in our plans; we rather have the attitude to pray that the Lord will go with us as we strike out on some adventure. It is good to plan and to have a outlook toward the future, but no one knows about tomorrow. If the Lord wills, I will live tomorrow and may accomplish what I have planned for tomorrow, but I must understand that tomorrow is in His hand.
That is why it is doubly important to seek the Lord regarding the steps we take. What has God called you to and how does your plan accomplish that calling and is this plan from the Lord or from you? These are important questions that when answered should give much clarity but even then we should say; if the Lord wills we will do this or that.
