Words by Jim Byrd

1. Unto the Lord this sinner owed
A debt I could not pay;
My sins were such an awful load,
But Christ put them away.

2. His blood has washed away my shame,
And satisfaction made;
O bless the dear Redeemer’s name,
My ransom price is paid.

3. Salvation unto Christ I owe,
O what a gracious Friend;
He washed and made me white as snow,
On Him my hopes depend.

4. Someday in heav’n I’ll sing His praise,
With all the ransomed throng;
And joyfully my voice I’ll raise,
To sing redemption’s song

Birthdays: Amy Hiers – Jan. 12th

“And of HIS fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.” (John 1:16)

O say with a melting heart that I have a full Christ, and He is filled for me. I have His pure and perfect righteousness to justify me, His holiness to sanctify me, His wisdom to guide me, His comforts to refresh me, His power to protect me, and His all-sufficiency to supply me. O be cheerful, be thankful; you have all your hearts can wish. And yet be humble; it is all from free grace to empty and unworthy creatures.

--- John Flavel

In view of my true state in life before the Holy God,

How His own Son has died the death to cleanse me by His blood;

I have in my experience a painful contradiction:

The vexing knowledge of my sin, and my sin’s malediction!

I think of this amidst the bliss of knowing I’m forgiven,

How ignorant of righteousness I was in all my living!

And now that I do see in Christ His love and truth displayed,

I also see my sinful flesh and what a wreck I’ve made.

I have a conflict in my life, within my body’s sphere,

Between what I do hate and the true good I hold so dear.

This conflict presses me to mourn in consternation true;

This conflict makes me long for when the struggle will be through.

Amidst this vexing struggle and the tears of bitter strife,

My hope in Christ and joy is this: my resurrection life!

For I am saved in hope that’s true and will not disappoint;

Hope God will make my life so it’s no longer out of joint.

Hope that someday my mortal self will find conformity,

With the declaration God by Christ has made of me:

The legal judgment for the fact the Christ my justice bore;

The verdict charged concerning me: Not Guilty! Evermore!

Someday I’ll see the One Who for my wicked life has died;

By resurrection He’ll wipe every tear clear from my eyes.

--- John Pedersen

Exaltation of Christ in the Salvation & Cleansing of Poor Sinners

If the Church’s Righteousnesses are as filthy rags; how filthy then is her Adam-Nature that pollutes all her services; and this after she is brought to Christ. Therefore what poor notions have we got of saintship, and holiness, and churches, when we look home to ourselves, and make our own saintship an object to take comfort in! Alas, says the Church better taught; “we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” {Is.64:6} As when the body hath a running sore, it issues forth and defiles the garment, especially when our garments are next to the sore, and nothing comes between; so corrupt and unclean nature {Job 14:4} defiles all duties that touch it, and that it issues forth upon; especially when we go to make a plaster of this running sore of our own performances, and stick our righteousnesses unto them {as the Church now in this place was made sensible she had done} instead of washing our wounds in the blood of Christ. As David in the 38th Psalm says of himself, “my wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness;” {38:5;} thus all our righteousnesses are filthy rags that must be burnt, or thrown out to the dunghill, because we have stuck them upon unclean nature and trusted therein. Now by our righteousnesses naturally unclean from ourselves, we see how unclean we must be, and yet must we not come to Christ notwithstanding our uncleanness? Yes, and believe also, that while we are so unclean in one respect, as our nature stands related to Adam in this world, we are also without spot to God {Cant.4:7} in another respect, as we are absolutely related to Christ over and after Adam. We stand unchangeably related to Christ as to our eternal state and condition of our persons and natures. Hence in the exaltings of grace under assistance we are saved by grace, and in the very cloudy pillar we have hope, {Rom.8:24,} good hope through grace, even when we lack assurance, and in the worst of times do wait for the hope of righteousness {Gal.5:5} by faith. In all our filthy relation unto nature, we come to Christ, and come to Christ boldly with a holy confidence in his blood, of our pure relation by grace.
