“The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.” Proverbs 10:3

The righteous are not exempt from suffering. The righteous are afflicted with the same maladies of life as the wicked. The righteous experience famine, war, pestilence, death, disease, fire, floods, and job loss. But there is one thing that the righteous will never suffer. Our souls will never be famished. In fact, it is through some of the very trials mentioned above, each and every one excruciating, that instead of famishing, the soul is strengthened. Isaiah 40 declares that the God who calls the stars by name never turns His gaze away from His own. In the midst of trouble, He is there. He renews strength when the weary soul is ready to faint. He hides His own under the shadow of His wing. The eternal God is the safe refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. Are you troubled today? Fix your gaze upon Jehovah. He will not suffer your soul famish. He will strengthen you with strength that you do not have. Wait upon the Lord, and be of good courage. He will strengthen your heart.
