I've seen men and women caught in the torment of temptation. Desire overcame wisdom and they were enticed and drawn to what seemed good but was really going to be death to them. The wrong relationship they pursued seemed to offer happiness and fulfillment but in the end only left them empty, cold, destitute and dirty.
It's like going back stage at Disney Land. You quickly realize that what you see from the front is not real, it is only a facade meant to entertain. So it is with the attractiveness of sin, is seems so pretty, so handsome, so alluring but it is the highway to hell, the descent into the chambers of death.
In James 1:15-16 we read: Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. (James 1:15-16 NKJV) The greatest temptation we face is our own evil desires. We must not let desire conceive for its offspring will bring death and destruction. Instead our happiness is found when we endure desire without letting it conceive evil. When confronted with danger we move out of the way, when confronted with dangerous desire we should run the other way.
Everyone is tempted and it is always at the crossroads of desire and lust. The desire might be legitimate but the lust will draw you to take what isn't yours. This deadens the soul and leads to emptiness and death. Do not be deceived but rather resist the temptation and turn to the Lord to give you strength and to meet your need.
