Many people believe Christ is just a crutch, one of many faiths, or nonsense. I mean, how does one really know that Christ is the Messiah (the Chosen One) or not? Why should one believe in the real reason for the celebration of Christmas (the first coming of Christ)? Why should all people rest their souls in this Christ of the Scriptures? Why should all people spend the duration of their lives living for Him? How does one know for sure that Christ really came to save ALL people?
God, in His Word, gives answers to all these questions - through His Truth: John 8:32 “The truth shall make you free.” Now the question is, What is Truth? The Bible has the answer to that question. Follow me in the Scriptures: John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” Psalms 33:4 “For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.” Another question that comes to mind is, Where was Truth originated?Psalm 25:10 “All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.” Psalm 31:5 “Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.” Psalm 85:11-13 “Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.12 Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.13 Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.” Psalm 96:12-13 “Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice 13 Before the Lord: for he cometh, or he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.” Here’s one last question about God’s Truth, Will It ever change?Psalm 119:89 “For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.” Psalm 146 5-6 “Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God: 6 Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever.”
Now in the old testament days God gave His people a way to know what He wanted done, or what was to be done...a way to know and practice God’s Truth. This way was made through Prophets. Now, in the Bible we find two types of Prophets: 1. True Prophets, and 2. False Prophets. How do we know who is telling it right? How did the people in 700 B.C., for instance, know what was right? Well, my friend, the Bible has the answers again.
Follow me in Deuteronomy 18:20-22 where God gives instruction to this very thought, “20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? 22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”
So the fulfillment of of what a prophet says makes him a true prophet from God. This, my friends, is why we have the books of the prophets in the Bible, because what they had to say was really communicated to them from God. How do we know? Because we have read of their prophecies fulfilled! Let’s examine a few that pertain to the validity of Christ’s birth as the Messiah (the Chosen One) for the salvation of all people.
The first prophecy we will examine is the proclamation of the prophet Isaiah. He prophesied that the Messiah would be miraculously be born of a virgin. Notice what Isaiah preached in Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Where do we find this prophecy fulfilled? Around 750 years later we find a man named Matthew give account of the birth of Christ, and this is what we find recorded in the Gospel of Matthew 1:18-23“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Jesus Christ fulfills the prophecy of the virgin birth!
The second prophecy we will examine is the proclamation of the prophet Micah. He prophesied that the Messiah would be born in a small country town of Bethlehem (nearly 700 years before it happened)! Read this, Micah 5:2, “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” Where do we fill this prophecy fulfilled? Join me again in the book of Matthew 2:1, “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king...”, and glance at Luke 2:4, “And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)” Wow! This Christ child is the fulfillment of another prophecy about the Chosen One!
Last, let’s examine the proclamation of the prophet Jeremiah. He prophesied that the Messiah would be of the lineage of David. Check out Jeremiah 23:5-6, “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. 6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, the Lord our Righteousness.” I know you just love to read through a list of genealogies, but if you were to read through Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:23-38, you would find a powerful fulfillment to Jeremiah’s prophecy. You will find that Jesus’ lineage is that which the Lord required through the prophet Jeremiah. Jesus fulfills another prophecy!
Listen, no man or men, could ever put something like this together...especially when they were hundreds of years apart. So the question that now comes after one realizes the Truth of about the birth of Jesus Christ is this: If Christ really is the Messiah, and all of what He came to fulfill is true, as the Bible proclaims, what does one do next? Jesus answered this question best in Mark 1:14-15, “14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” There is the answer, “Repent ye, and believe the Gospel.” What is the Gospel? The Gospel is the Truth that Jesus died, was buried, three days later He bodily resurrected Himself, ascended to heaven, and will come again a second time to rule and reign.
Please turn to the only way to be saved from your sins, that is, have repentant faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Recall this verse from the account of Christ’s birth in Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
Trust also the words of Romans 10:13“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Why? John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
GIVE YOUR LIFE TO JESUS NOW...BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!
With all my love, may the peace that only God can bring, through Christ, be found in you this season as you give your life to the LORD!
