Almost everybody wants peace. Twice in fifty years a British Prime Minister predicted that there would be peace in our time. In 1938 Neville Chamberlain made this statement only to see Adolf Hitler's army invade the Sudetenland the next day eventually plunging the world into war. But oh how we want peace. We want it so badly that if we could just speak it into existence we would.
In Jeremiah 28:9 we read: As for the prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet comes to pass, the prophet will be known as one whom the Lord has truly sent.” (Jeremiah 28:9 NKJV)
Jeremiah's point is well taken, in this world we live with the opposite of peace. Tribulation, war, turmoil are ever present with mankind and peace escape us. This was especially true for Judah, the Southern Kingdom of Israel. Years of neglecting God's word and living in evil had brought about all that God had warned them of: war, famine, pestilence, fear, hunger, and captivity.
The false prophet predicted that peace was a mere two years away and would see the return of all that had been lost. But seventy years had been decreed. Peace can be found even in the middle of war, that is by giving yourself completely to the Lord. Let Him occupy your life and His grace will give you peace. Pray for peace and He will give it to you. Peace is with us now if we are in Christ.
