The Speech of Jesus - John 7 - Part Two
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 06, 2012

Thank you for taking time to read these few thoughts. I hope that they will be a blessing and encouragment to you as you strive to live and speak for our Lord. In an attempt to catch up to where we are these are the previous points. The first is that many are afraid to speak for or about Christ. Next the speech of Christ makes men marvell. The third point to note is that when Jesus speaks He is speaking for the Father. The last thing we took notice of was the boldness with which Christ spoke. If you wish to read about these points look at the previous post "The speech of Jesus part one."

As we continue in this second part lets look first at verses 28-32. "Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me. Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?" In these verses we see that the speech of Christ is both convicting and convincing. Many of the people were believing on him, they we being convinced. Jesus as always our great exmaple. As preachers and teachers of the Word we must depend on the Holy Spirit for conviction but we must strive to convince. We preach to reach a verdict. At the end of the message the hearer should be at that point where they will decide to follow the Word or not. As preachers and teachers of the Word one of our greatest resources to convice others is when we are thouroghly convinced ourselves! Convinced of the truth of our message and willing to passionately obey our Lord in His commission.

In verses 33-36, "Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while I am with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come. Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles and teach the Gentiles? What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?" Notice here that often the speech of Jesus confuses the lost man. These Jews did not understand that Jesus spoke of His return to the Father in heaven. If they could not understand what Jesus meant, dont be surprised if they misunderstand you as you try to communicate the scriptures. Pray that the Holy Spirit intercedes and gives understanding to those as they hear.

Next, notice Jesus great invitation to Himself. Verse 37-39 says, "In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given: because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)" Thanks be to God that I have accepted the invitation! I pray you have too! Christ calls men to Himself. Lets join Him and may our teaching and preaching be rich with the love of Christ and His atonement for our sins! Invite others to drink of the Water of Life freely and drink to their fill. When we are full of our Savior out of our bellies will flow those living waters! Be full and then flow friend!

Verse 40-43, "Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was? So there was a division among the people because of him." Cant the same be said today. There is division over who Jesus is and what is believed as a result. Oh that people would listen and believe Christ. He is the Word become flesh, our Lamb who was slain and rose again. He is who He says! Let us not be divided in our devotion to Him brethren.

Finally notice in verse 46. "The officers answered, Never man spake like this man." I believe the officers got it right. Isnt life different when Jesus speaks. When He speaks and we listen. So now its your turn. Get in the Word and hear what Jesus has to say and then follow! If you wish and this blog was helpful feel free to let me know! God bless
