“Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.” Proverbs 28:6
What kind of value do you place on a righteous life, a life that seeks to please God? Let’s just face it, in our world the celebrated and famous are not usually those who spend their lives seeking God above all else. The world doesn’t place much worth on obedience to God.
God’s opinion (the one that really matters), is the opposite. In God’s eyes, a successful life is centered upon a heart of love and devotion to Him. This kind of value system was the environment in the home I was blessed to be raised in. Probably a hundred times I’ve heard my father say, “I would rather you kids have to dig ditches to make a living and serve God, than to be very wealthy and not.” Wealth is not evil, but wealth without obedience to God is worthless.
What kind of life do you envision and pray for your children? One centered on God, or one with other things front and center? For the rest of your life, what kind of life you do you envision and hope for yourself? May our values mirror God’s values.
