Mary rejoiced with her cousin. Both were blessed and each about to bring to the earth a prediction from the Messenger from the Lord. Her cousin was about to bring her son in a beautiful home. Mary went home to uncertainty. What would Joseph do? Joseph comes to take Mary to his family house. Now she will bring the Savior into a nice working class home with Joseph’s family members around to help….his mother, sisters, grandmother probably…. Then out of the blue Joseph has to take his family on journey that he could not get out of….Mary so close to giving birth….on a donkey….four days journey….government commandment to be taxed.
On their journey, Mary had labor pains very close to Bethlehem. They needed to find a place to give birth with no midwives or family to help. Joseph running around trying in a hurry to find a place to rent . Nothing. Mary is being carried to a place with sheep, and shepherds have spent hundreds of years to get of the cold….a cave carried in hundreds of years of sheep dung.
How could this be she might have thought? Did they do wrong? What failures they must have felt? Why has God done this? Is this not suppose to be the Christ? Why did not God provide better?
What must have Pandit Viswa Mitra thought? He among the Wisemen have left their wealthy estates to come worship and present gifts to the King of Kings. He was just in the hands of a working class young couple in a small town. Everything must have seemed wrong to Pandit Viswa. What did he think when he returned home to his wealth and position?
As an old man, Pandit Viswa, left India again to come a missionary in Israel and work miracles in Jesus’ name. What must have Jesus’ disciples thought when this man was at least 60 years old was doing what they did? He believed in Jesus more than they did. For he knew that Jesus was the child God sent him to and called back …..left all his money and position in India….and came back to work among the children of Israel in Jesus’ name…..healing the sick.
What must have Mary thought when she learned that one of the Wisemen was back in Israel with the skin of a dark Indian….working among the Jews as a Gentile…healing the sick in her son’s name? Was this another confirmation to the amazing things God is doing in her son’s life?
2,000 years ago we see with clearer eyes the reasons God put them through these things. Yet, today, we do not see so clearly when it happens to us.
Thank You God, for putting today’s Wisemen in our paths to show us the guard rail for us to grab a hold of and pull ourselves us to continue to “stand” in our battle.
