“Ask and you shall receive.” Too many Christians use this teaching of Jesus to turn God into a kind of eternal Santa Claus. Too many preachers preach a gospel of God’s servitude to man rather than man’s servitude to Him.
Do you know that the Bible says God does not answer the prayers of those who are not truly born from above by the Spirit of God? Look up Proverbs 15:8 and 29. Here the Lord tells us that the prayers of the wicked are an abomination to Him. He says He is far from listening to and answering their prayers. In James 4:1-8 the Lord teaches that he does not answer our prayers when they are selfish and self-centered.
Moreover, in Romans 8:26 the Lord tells us that we do not really know what we ought to pray.
What hope then is there for us? There is no hope or help for those who are not in Christ Jesus. If God has never transformed your life so that you love him and serve him with all your heart, soul, and mind then your prayers are meaningless. Call upon the name of the Lord. Surrender to him all that you have and are. Flee to him as the only Savior from you rebellion against him and he will save you. Perhaps you need some help in your longing for the Lord. We at Providence stand ready to help you.
