I imagine most of us would admit that the above verse is true. We’re all sinners. But do we see sin for what it really is? Sin is an act of rebellion against God. It is man’s attempt to grab autonomy for his own life out of God’s hands. Scripture defines sin as “missing the mark” in terms of falling short of God’s perfect standards. It also describes sin as a deadly, filthy disease of the soul, a perversion of heart and mind, a debt against God, and the source of death. That’s what God says you and I are plagued with!

It’s painful isn’t it? But, that’s not where God’s word leaves us. Not only does it vividly describe the horrors of sin, but page after page of Scripture reveals the cure for this deadly disease, the payment for this heavy debt. It is the person and work of Jesus Christ. His blood pays the debts of His people, brings cleansing to the soul, and ensures a new heart of love and obedience be given to those He redeemed.
