A leader within the Christian evangelism community quotes pastors and evangelist like John MacArthur and Paul Waher. He does so in a way that leaves the reader or listener believing he theologically agrees with these men. Yet often privately and now publicly Mark Cahill venomously denounces these same teachers and teachings. What should the Christian response be to such an author?
"Several Christians, including the writer of this article, have encouraged Mark Cahill to remove his books One Heartbeat Away and One Thing You Can’t Do In Heaven from circulation until such time as he edits the books to remove all of the quotes from Calvinists and every positive comment he made about some of those same Calvinists. These admonitions have been communicated to Cahill multiple times over the last two years, and he has ignored them. Cahill continues to print and distribute these two books, in spite of the fact he believes Calvinists teach a different, anathematized gospel and believe in a Jesus who is not the Jesus of the Bible. Evidence of this is found in Cahill’s Calvinism and the Bible article.
"Mark Cahill continues to profit — if not financially, by way of notoriety and popularity — from the distribution of his first two books. This shows either a lack of integrity and/or a lack of care for those he seems to be so determined to save from Calvinism. CARM believes in order for Mark Cahill to be theologically consistent and have integrity in his first two published works he must remove any and all quotes by Calvinists and positive references to the same. We also believe Mark should issue a public apology for misleading Christians by positively quoting Calvinists who he believes worship a false god."
Though I disagree with Mark's views of the doctrines of Grace, I think the more this is fought and the more he is "required" to renounce his views, in keeping with integrity, the more he will stand against and oppose Calvinist to make his point. This is not a battle I would fight. I am sure Spurgeon, Edwards, Brainerd, Carey or any other "dead" Calvinist would agree with me. If you and I believe God is Sovereign in salvation, and that he reveals truth to whom he will, then we need to rest in the fact that he is in complete control and can/will bring Mark to the other side in his time. The servant of the Lord must not strive, but be gentle to all. Let's pray for Mark as he tries to win others to Christ. God is able to make him stand - Rom_14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
