"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. " John 17:3
What is eternal life? According to Jesus' definition here, it is to know the true God and His Son Jesus Christ. To know about someone and really know them are two different things. The 'know' here involves not only knowledge but also love for God. It is not affection for a false god, but as Jesus specifies "the only true God." Do you love God and His Son? If so, the Scriptures say you have eternal life! Not to say that every aspect of eternal life is yours yet--you still wait for it--but the foretaste, or appetizer, is yours already.
A true knowledge and love for Christ is the most valuable thing you or I can possess. Do you look at it like that? Do you invest your time and energy into that blessed relationship? Do you consume God's word and apply it with the view of knowing God in a more rich and satisfying way? In a world cursed by death, may we rejoice and highly prize eternal life.
