Ok. I know these few words won't increase my popularity, but it should be obvious that my popularity isn't our priority around here, but rather speaking the truth in love is our only concern. What I am about to say is certainly not intended to reflect badly on anyone who speaks well of America's past. I also do the same. However, I do believe God wants us to move forward.
Among the most popular preaching today are messages that speak of America's old glory. Any message title that gives a hint at that kind of speaking gets a lot of downloads; but brothers and sisters in the kingdom of God, America's old glory is not what our pursuit should be. It should not be what we are crying about or longing for. Yes. I praise God for the old America and for America still today, but I long for "another country whose builder and maker is God." (Hebrews 11) This is all that I am interested in preaching about. Can we move on now beyond the emotional draws brought on by past glories? I hope so. Those glories were not God's glories anyway.
Oh, that God's people might go forward in Him!
"For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city." (Heb 11:14-16)
