The year I got my drivers license, I bought a 1956 Chevy Bel-air for $125. It was brown and I fixed it up with new carpet, tuck and roll upholstery and a nice stereo. I loved that car and wish I still owned it. But, I sold it. I traded the car for money and then I spent the money. In the end I had neither the car nor the money.
In John 6:61-62 we read: When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, “Does this offend you? What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before?
The disciples didn’t understand how Jesus could give His body and continue to exist. As the disciples looked at Jesus all they could see was a man telling them that they must eat His body and drink His blood. What a repulsive thing to say and do, Jesus would be consumed and they wouldn’t have Him anymore. Just like the Passover lamb had to be consumed, so did Jesus. Consumed by death, and overtaken by sin. We partake by faith, a spiritual partaking of a physical reality. Jesus did die and when we believe in Him we are partaking of His death.
Jesus could both give Himself as the sacrifice for Sin and then raise up from death having victory over it. He was consumed but yet He lives. He was crucified but Yet He lives. We have both, the savior killed for our sins and the savior who lives to make intercession for us. Our part is to believe in Him and to receive eternal life.
