In five short days, Eleanor and I will be boarding an Air France plane heading for Paris and then on to Cameroon. It's hard to believe that we are already at the end of July!
This Friday we will host a "packing party" to prepare boxes of Bibles, Bible study materials, and supplies for the Cameroon trip. Before each trip, a dedicated group of men, women, and their families join us in our home for an evening of fellowship and service as we pack, weigh, re-pack, and re-weigh boxes of books and other materials for conference attendees. One ministry of Grace Community International is providing Bibles, books on doctrine, etc. for our Christian brothers and sisters who live in parts of the world where these items are not readily available. For many believers, the cost of a MacArthur Study Bible alone is equal to a month's (or more!) salary. Church members share Bibles during the week, and pastors preach out of the Word of God held together with rubber bands. Part of equipping heads of households to lead their family according to Scripture is providing them with their own copy of God's Word!
There are two things on earth that are eternal - men's souls and the Word of God. I praise God for allowing me to be a vessel of service both in proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus and Christ and then providing fellow believers with copies of His living, eternal, inerrant Word! Upon hearing of this aspect of GCI's ministry, many individuals, churches, and home groups have taken it upon themselves to "sponsor" a box(es) of Bibles and reference materials for us to take. God has blessed these efforts by either providing baggage waivers via the airlines themselves or generous donors who give specifically to cover the extra baggage fees which enable us to bring far more boxes of materials with us than the two bags apiece we would otherwise be able to take.
Please begin to pray now for smooth travels to Cameroon and that God would go before us to protect this precious cargo of His Word!
By His mercy, II Corinthians 4:1 Rev. John S. Mahon Grace Community Int.
