Contending for the Faith in America: An Open Letter to North American Churches

This article, written by Rev. Fletcher Matandika was originally published in the Modern Reformation magazine which owns the copyright.

Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. Jude 3 – 4

The kind of Christianity that is being exported to the rest of the world (particularly the developing world) from America is poisonous. As a Malawian Christian, I am very concerned about negative influence(s) of the American Church in my home country at different levels, not the least of all, theologically.

Rev. Matandika then goes on to give three exhortations to his fellow pastors:

  1. Remember that you have been given the highest calling that any mortal man can receive from the Lord Jesus Christ.
  2. Remember dear brothers that souls of sinful men and women are at stake!
  3. Remember dear brothers that the gospel needs no improvement!

You can read the entire letter, "Contending for the Faith in America: An Open Letter to North American Churches (PDF)."
