BLOG ON: SERMON The AV - 400 Years Of Blessing
Loughbrickland Reformed Presbyterian
Rev David Silversides
This year sees the 400th anniversary of the Authorised Version of the Bible in English. Many singular and remarkable instances have marked its rise, progress, completion and proclammation. Such attendant blessings and favours ought to be seriously considered and appreciated by the church to whom the Lord gives His Word.

The unique qualities of the Authorised Version are looked at in this address, considering both the historical advantages afforded by God's gracious providence surrounding its formation, and also the calibre of the translation itself - surpassing any other translation in the English language for accuracy and reliability.

1. How the Lord gave us the AV in 1611.

2. The question of progress or regression.
Are modern versions an improvement on what the AV affords? Modern versions diverge from the AV on the:-
1) Text used
2) Translation method
3) Use of more accurate older pronouns

3. The breadth of acceptance of the AV.

4. The AV and the character of King James.
