Flood - Zebulon Baptist Church and Pastor's Home
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 05, 2010

On Saturday, July 17th, 2010 there was another significant flood in Pikeville, Kentucky. The water breached both the home of Pastor Tom Harding and his wife, Bridgett and the church building. The high water mark was three feet higher than the flood that occurred in May, 2008. The water level reached the bottom of the pew seats in the auditorium of the church building.

I am posting this information from out of country, so information is very limited. I have not talked with my dear Pastor (Tom Harding), but I am certain that they could use any help that is available. There is a tremendous amount of labor required immediately following a flood, so if you are considering traveling to Pikeville to assist, I know from my experience in 2008 that your assistance will be helpful.

Please pray for the congregation in Pikeville. I am certain that they will need to find a temporary place to worship over the next several weeks (and maybe months). Also, please pray for Tom and Bridgett. They have been through numerous floods over the years and am sure that they are very weary. Recovering from a flood is a long, laborious and expensive journey. Again, I haven't talked with Brother Tom, but I am certain that he and Bridgett MUST find another place to live. Living in the parsonage is placing there lives at risk. During this flood, Tom was looking for an escape route to the roof because the water was increasing at such a rapid rate.

At this point, here is what I know:

  1. The house was flooded and everything below the first level was completely submerged and lost.
  2. The church building basement was completely submerged. Almost everything will be lost.
  3. The church building auditorium is now uninhabitable. Water reached to seats of the pews.
  4. The pastor's office flooded. I know Tom lost his computer; I am not sure what else was lost in his office at this time.
  5. Tom's 2007 Toyota Tundra was flooded.

Chris, my brother, took pictures yesterday while in Pikeville helping with the clean-up. Follow the link in this blog to the picture album .
