“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come…” According to the Jewish way of reckoning days a new day starts at sundown. But that is the night part; the day is fully come in the morning. By the way, what morning was it? “pentecost” means “feast of the fiftieth (day).” Counting from the Passover, 7 sabbaths are “completed” and then on the next morning (read: Leviticus 23:15-16). That was the day when the Hebrews (Jews) celebrated the full harvest.” So the Lord had it planned that He would shower His Church with the abundantharvest of the Holy Spirit’s gifts and graces as a fruit of Jesus’death (Passover) and resurrection (Easter) on that special first day of the week, Pentecost. And what were the conditions in that congregation as they anticipated this equipping and reviving work of the Holy Spirit? They were “all with one accord in one place.” (Acts 2:1) You can be sure that Thomas was in church that Sunday! (cf. Heb.10:25). Furthermore, they were “in one accord,” they were of one mind, in harmony with each other. There was an agreement in the faith, a uniting love, and they were all in prayer for the blessed presence of the Lord through the promised gift of His Spirit. (cf. Acts 1:14). When a congregation is together with that kind of unity and harmony in one place, in the name of the Lord, in prayer, on the Lord’s Day,....may we not expect something special?
