How many people go to work on Pell grants?

I think Pell Grants are the best possible investment the government can make. They give the government more bang for the buck than any other use of money. The return on investment that the government gets from these grants is better than any other investment known to mankind.

I attended college almost entirely on Pell Grants. (I was unable to work much to support myself in college on account of my health at that time.) I was unable to afford college, coming from a background of poverty.

For my free ride, the government has gotten quite a good deal. I have been working at a professional job for a decade and a half, and paying more than my fair share of taxes. By helping to lift me out of poverty, they've gotten a reliable revenue stream from my taxes.

The government should try to multiply this effect by as many people as it possibly can, in its own enlightened self-interest. The more people who get good jobs, the more tax dollars that will be coming in.

I would not hesitate to say that Pell Grants are the smartest use of public money that the government has ever found.
