ZEBULON BAPTIST CHURCH
Weekly Bulletin
Sunday, March 30th, 2008

My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise. Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early. I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations. For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth. Psalm 57:7-11

PASTOR'S NOTE
The group of believers who have been meeting in Kingsport, Tn. since Sept. 2006 will begin meeting in their new location today. They have rented a commercial building at, 443 East Sullivan Street. The meeting time each Sunday will be at 6:00 p.m.! We pray that our merciful Lord will bless their efforts to establish a gospel preaching church. If any of our bulletin readers would like to contribute to this effort, you can send your donations to: Kingsport Sovereign Grace Ministry, 1004 Shepparton Lane, Kingsport, Tn. 37664.

CHRIST IS ALL
Much of today's preaching has to do with making Christ our savior. If God is pleased to save us, it will be God the Father who made Him our Savior. It is God who made Christ to be our, wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption (1Corinthians 1:30). I do not make Christ to be anything; however God the Father made Him to be every thing to His people; Christ is our all in all by the power and purpose of God. (Colossians 3:11). Pastor John Chapman

"THE WORLD BY WISDOM KNEW NOT GOD"
What did the philosophy of Greece do for its disciples? It made them ignorant worshipers of an "unknown God" (Acts 17:23). The inscription on their altar published to the universe their ignorance and shame.

How can I know God? Where can I find Him? Can science and philosophy tell me? Have they ever told anyone? No, never. "The world by wisdom knew not God." The schools of ancient philosophy could only plunge the human mind into darkness and hopeless bewilderment, and the schools of modern philosophy are not one bit better. They give no certainty, no safe anchorage, no solid ground of confidence, only hopeless speculation, torturing doubt, wild and baseless theory. That's all human philosophy in any age or of any nation has to offer an earnest seeker of truth.

How then are we to know God? If such a stupendous result hangs on this knowledge; if to know God is life eternal, and Jesus says it is (John 17:3), then how is He to be known? "No man hath seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him" (John 1:18). Here we have the answer. Christ reveals God to the soul and reveals the Father to the heart. We are not sent to creation to learn who God is, though we see His power, wisdom and goodness there. We are not sent to the law, though we see His holiness and justice there. No, if we want to know Whom and What God is, we are to look into the face of Jesus Christ, Who dwelt in His bosom before all worlds, Who was His eternal delight, the object of His affections (2Cor. 4:6). Pastor Scott Richardson

SWEET TERMS OF GRACE
Though our salvation was finished in all its details from eternity, though our redemption was fully accomplished at Calvary, the Lord God continually performs it in us and continually assures us that he is doing so by using present tense verbs as simple statements of fact, declaring the reality of every believer's experience of grace. - "Choosest" - "Redeemeth" - "Justifieth" - "Forgiveth" - "Cleanseth" - What sweet terms of grace these are to our souls! Pastor Don Fortner

THE GOSPEL OF JOY AND PEACE IN BELIEVING
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost (Rom. 15:13).

These words of inspiration encourage my weary heart. The gospel of God in Christ is so designed to give God all the glory for the salvation of sinners (1Cor. 1:30-31). But thank God, it is also designed to give to broken, sinful and weary sinners joy and peace through the gospel (Rom. 5:1). Notice this also, it is "joy and peace in believing," not working, not ceremony and the traditions of men, but by simple faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, that we may abound in hope (Heb. 11:6). The Lord Jesus Christ is the whole believer's hope before God and men (Col. 1:27; 2:9-10; 3:11). This is constantly brought into our heart and thoughts through the power of the Holy Spirit, Who shall take the things of Christ and reveal them unto us, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you" (John 16:13-15).

WHAT A CONTRAST
But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. (Acts 7:55-56).

What a demonstration of contrast between the way of the wicked flesh and the way of sovereign grace when God's servant, Stephen was being stoned to death for the gospel's sake. The enemies of the gospel were filled with rage; Stephen was filled with joy in the Lord (Acts 7: 56; Phil. 3:3). They were occupied with hatred; Stephen was bursting with the love of God shed abroad in his heart by the Holy Spirit (Rom. 5:5). They were packed with fear; Stephen was occupied with faith (Heb. 12:2). They were chock-full of persecution; Stephen was jam-packed with prayer (Acts 7:60).

Oh, what a difference the sovereign grace of God makes in the believer (Rom. 9:15-16; 1 Cor. 4:7; 2 Tim. 1:9). Oh, how dreadfully wicked is the way of the sinful flesh (Rom. 3:9-18) Pastor Tom Harding
