Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Psalm 51:1-4
WHO GETS THE GLORY? If you wish to know if the gospel you are hearing preached is the gospel of God, ask yourself this question, "Who gets the glory?" If you wish to know whether your religious experience is of the flesh or of the Lord, ask yourself the same thing, "Who gets the glory?" Also, examine all your gifts, works, and missionary efforts by the same rule, "Who gets the glory?" God will not share His glory! That which is of God, from God, and for God's glory will be blessed with His presence and power..."that no flesh should glory in His presence...that, according as it is written, he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:29, 31) Pastor Henry Mahan
THE PREACHING OF THE GOSPEL My dear friend, we need nothing in these days for revival and refreshing but THE PREACHING OF THE G0SPEL! This is the only great battering ram that shall dash down the bulwarks of iniquity. This is the great light that shall scatter the darkness. We need no new schemes nor new laws; we need but PREACH THE WORD! We must not neglect it nor despise it. The age in which the pulpit and the preaching of the Word are despised will be an age in which truth will cease to be honored. Once put away, God's ministers and you have taken the candle out of the candlestick, quenched the lamp God has appointed in the sanctuary. God has ordained by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. Oh, what power there is in preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. (2 Timothy 4:1, Romans 1:16) Copied
TRUE FAITH It is not true faith to trust Christ only when you feel you are saved. True faith is to trust Christ at all times; whether you feel like you are saved or not; when you have a deep consciousness of your sin and when you don't; when you have assurance of faith and when your faith is so weak you wonder if you have faith at all. A person is not saved because he feels saved nor because he is aware of his sinfulness. A person is saved when he trusts Christ--His blood for redemption and forgiveness of sin, His righteousness for acceptance with God; when he commits all to Him as the "Author and finisher of our faith." Our feelings may change by the hour, but our salvation is not dependent on our feelings; it is dependent solely on Him who never changes-- "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever!" Pastor Charles Pennington
AN ETERNAL DISTINCTION The religious professor receives doctrines because he sees them in the Bible. The believer not only sees them in the Book, but he feels them in his heart, put there by the Holy Spirit. The believer gets at truth through trouble. He arrives at the banquet of mercy through sharp pangs of hunger. He lays hold of the robe of righteousness chilled by nakedness. He comes to the cross because he is guilty and there is nowhere else to go. Thus the religionist and the believer (however they may resemble one another) have an eternal distinction, which the hand of God has drawn between the living and the dead. J.C. Philpot
A DESCRIPTION OF THE MESSIAH'S WORK In Daniel chapter 9:24, the angel Gabriel was sent to declare and inform Daniel about the certainty of the coming of the Messiah at the appointed time (Gal. 4:4), the glory and sufficiency of His redeeming work that He would accomplish for His people. It was the same message and maybe the same messenger that declared unto Joseph that Mary would bring forth the Son of God to put away the sin of God's chosen people (Matt. 1:21). We know according to the record of scripture when the Lord Jesus Christ was manifested in the flesh, He perfectly performed all things necessary to accomplish and secure the salvation of God's elect (Psa. 57:2). Lets take a close look at the six things mentioned in this scripture.
1)."To finish the transgression," or to restrain and shut it up. Our Lord said on the cross, "It is finished." He has accomplished a complete victory over sin. By His precious blood atonement our sin has been arrested, taken prisoner and confined. Sin is no longer able to exercise dominion and condemnation over God's sheep (John 10:15; Rom. 5:20).
2). "To make an end of sins," or to seal it up. Our sins and transgression have not only been shut up, but also everlastingly sealed up. God's infinite justice has been meticulously satisfied by the substitutionary work of Jesus Christ and the blood of Christ has forever cleansed us from all sins (1 John 1:7; Heb. 2:17).
3)."To make reconciliation for iniquity," or to cover it up (Psalm 32:2). Our sins had separated us from God (Isa. 59:2). But now through Christ putting away our sin by His blood, the cause of separation is removed (1 John 4:10). Therefore the believer is eternally reconciled to God through Jesus Christ (2 Cor. 5:18). Every trace of sin has been removed (Heb. 10:17).
4). "To bring in everlasting righteousness." Christ Jesus has established, provided and imputed perfect righteousness to every one that trusts Him alone for salvation (Rom. 4:6). He is the believers righteousness (Rom. 10:1-4; Jer. 23:5).
5). "To seal up the vision and prophecy." All things that have been written in the scriptures concerning the Messiah and the blessed, redeeming work He would perform; Jesus Christ has fulfilled (1 Cor.15:1-4). We have found Him who is the Christ (John 1:41).
6). "To anoint the most holy." Our Lord and Saviour died at the appointed time as God's Lamb (Acts 2:23), but He was also the anointed High Priest acting as the representative for His people (Luke 4:18). Being appointed, anointed and empowered to fulfill all things He did not fail to glorify God and secure our eternal salvation (Isa. 42:4; Isa. 53:10-12). Pastor Tom Harding
