Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross…” (Colossians 2:14)

Although elect from eternity, yet the law and justice of God stood against those God purposed to save until Christ had paid the debt in full. The full, free, and final justification of God’s elect occurred at the cross. It was there that their sins were imputed to their Savior, and simultaneously God justified them. So complete was Christ’s work at Calvary that there remained nothing but God’s righteousness to impute once Christ had finished it. This was all done at one time, in one place, in one Substitute, by THE ONE SACRIFICE.

By God in Christ- “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:19)

By the death of Christ- “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” (Romans 5:10)

While alienated from God- “And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled, In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblamable and unreprovable in his sight…” (Colossians 1:21,22)
