A Gracious Arrangement Of Our Lord

Christ, as King, has received from the Father universal authority over all flesh to the end that He may confer eternal life upon His elect. To save a people for His glory, the Father has taken the whole world of men and angels from under the immediate rule of God as Absolute God and placed them under the authority, power, and government of Christ the Mediator.

Because of this gracious arrangement A FALLEN RACE IS PERMITTED TO EXIST. A sinful world encountering an absolute God must be instantly doomed to hell. But men, as rebels, live on in virtue of the Mediator. When His people are called and His family complete, then the world will be destroyed.

And it is because of this gracious arrangement THE GOSPEL IS PREACHED to all nations and a sincere invitation is extended to all who will come. Pastor Henry T. Mahan (1983 bulletin)

SEEK THE LORD

That they should seek the Lord” (Acts 17:27). I know what you and I should do. We should seek the Lord! Everything in our lives is a call to seek the Lord. All men, regardless of their circumstances should seek the Lord. The light of creation is a call to all men to seek the Creator. But amazingly, “There is none that seeketh after God” (Romans 3:11).

This testifies to the total depravity of all men. They do not seek the Lord. They prefer darkness to light, sin to holiness, evil to good, works to grace, law to Gospel. But thank God, He seeks men. Christ came “To seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). He says to the soul He seeks, “When Thou saidst, seek ye My face; my heart said Thy face O Lord will I seek.” And we have the blessed assurance “He that seeketh, findeth.” There has never been one person who ever sought the Lord that did not find Him! BOASTING EXCLUDED, HUMILITY PROMOTED

“Where is boasting then? It is excluded.” (Romans 3:27)

All boasting in anything about us is of necessity excluded since salvation is by God’s free and sovereign grace. Who does God save?

Sinners. What is the only thing a sinner has done? Sin. Then we don’t have anything to boast about, but rather we have everything to be ashamed of. The only thing left for a sinner to boast about is our Savior who has saved us from all of our sin. “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Gal. 6:14)

It Pleased The Lord To Make You His People

“For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people” (1 Sam. 12:22).

The Lord sovereignly called Abraham out of idolatry and blessed him and made a nation from that one man (Gen. 12:1-3). I hear no one complaining about that.

No one in this religious world complains about the Lord making a nation called Israel to differ from the pagan nations that surrounded it in the days of Samuel (1 Sam. 12:22).

The Lord sovereignly chose David as His king and made him a man after His own heart and left his brothers to themselves. I hear no one complaining about that (1 Sam. 16:10-13).

The Lord sovereignly chose John the Baptist to be the messenger to announce the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:29). I hear no one complaining about that.

Yet, when you mention that Bible doctrine of sovereign and unconditional election of a people unto salvation, that the Lord our God sovereignly chose a people unto salvation before the foundation of world (Eph. 1:3-6; 2Thes. 2:13), lost religious folks get all bent out of shape and up in arms about that Bible truth.

Have you ever wondered why that happens? People think that God owes them salvation by what they have done or yet will be able to do. While the sinner, who is taught of God knows that if God had not chosen him before he was born He never would have done so afterwards. Sinners give thanks unto our great God and Saviour who chose them to salvation (John 15:16; 1 Thes. 1:4-6) and for Christ Jesus, who died for their sins to accomplish our salvation (Heb. 9:26). We give thanks to our great God who calls us out of darkness into His marvelous light (2 Cor. 4:6; 1 Pet. 2:9); who makes us new creatures in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17) and partakers of a new and divine nature in regeneration in the new birth ( Eph. 4:24; 2 Peter 1:3-4).
