The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness. Isaiah 57:1-2

Today Is The Day Of Salvation

“For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor. 6:2).

It is one thing to "wait on the Lord” (Psalm 27:14) in matters of providence, trial, and decisions regarding our plans and purposes. But the command to repent and believe on Christ is in the imperative! It is "NOW is the accepted time, TODAY is the day of salvation." Someone may say, "But I want to be sure." You can be sure that you are a guilty sinner, that you have no ability to justify yourself before God, that God sent His Son to save, that He is a sufficient Saviour, and that not to believe this gospel is to make God a liar and presume on His patience! Walk in THE LIGHT YOU HAVE; look to Christ now and confess what faith you have depending on Him to give you more faith.

Pastor Henry T. Mahan (1982)

Two Tributes to Cody Groover

Cody Groover, was taken up into Glory last Thursday morning (Nov. 17). We grieve our loss of him here, and our hearts go out to his precious wife, Winna, his parents: Walter and Betty, and his children: Andria, Austin, and Cade.

In addition to his travel as a missionary, he pastored the local congregation of God’s saints where he lived in Merida, Yucatan. Our prayers are with the brethren there as they mourn the loss of their pastor and seek our God’s will for them, and the ministry there, in the days ahead. Although our hearts are sad, his is not! His eyes have seen God! His ears have heard His voice! His hands have touched the actual scars that paid the price of his redemption! Our Brother has been granted the highest attainment any soul could ever dream of becoming - A Joint Heir With Christ! So, we give thanks and praise to our God for all that He has done THROUGH our Brother during his time on this earth, and all He has done TO our Brother in eternally ridding his body of sin, and granting him the eternal bliss of Glory with Him!

Pastor Gabe Stalnaker

This past Thursday, November 17th, the Lord Jesus Christ called our Friend, Missionary Cody Groover home to glory. Cody was a beloved friend and faithful minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served as a missionary and Pastor in Mexico for over 22 years. During which time God was pleased to continue the work began by Walter Groover as well as raise up other churches of which Cody was Pastor. We are deeply saddened by his departure but we confess that “precious in the sight of LORD is the death of His saints.” (Psa. 116:15) Please pray for his family and the churches that God would comfort them and raise up another pastor for them. And rejoice in the truth that Cody is now present with our Lord. Rejoice that the salvation he preached here is now fully revealed and experienced by our brother in glory. Let us rejoice that soon and very soon we too shall be rejoicing with him in the presence of our Great God and Savior Jesus Christ. Pastor Fred Evans

A LETTER FROM A PRISONER

Addressed to Pastor Henry Mahan (1970)

I received this in a letter from Pastor Henry Mahan this last week and he asked me to share this with you all.He had a daily and weekly radio program in Ashland, Ky. for many years. His program reached into southern Ohio, where this prisoner heard the radio program and the message of the gospel entered into his heart.Although this man was convicted of murder and locked up for life, the Lord graciously opened his heart and made him a new creature, forgiving all his sin.We rejoice in his testimony and thank the Lord for the salvation of sinners (Matt. 9:10-13; 1 Tim. 1:15).

Pastor Mahan writes:

“I want to read you a letter I received today. This letter is from a young man in the penitentiary in Lucasville, Ohio. Tom Dejarnett, was a former boxer, a black friend of mine. He makes $12.00 a month (that is what he is allowed to make). He enclosed a check made out to the church for $3.00.”

He writes:

Dear Brother Mahan, I thought I would get a note out to you. It has been such nice a week, good fellowship last night at the church (they have a church service in the penitentiary led by the chaplain), we shared so many wonderful thoughts together and I am glad to see some spiritual movement here, it really was a blessing last night. We only have 18, a small body in membership. But I want you to know that this $3.00 is not enough to mention, but it is from my heart. If it were $300,000 it would not be enough for how the gospel which you preach has played such a role in my outlook for a more meaningful life. It helps me in this struggle. You see, when a man has craved sin such as I until he hates it bad enough to crave God and this is how I seem to be, thirsty and hungry as I seek a better purpose. There is never enough money or words to express my gratitude toward you and 13th Street Baptist Church, but I want to do little things for people as I can, because one of the hardest things to accomplish in life is to be as generous to someone else as you are to yourself.I believe much of your knack for teaching has rubbed off on this boy in a big way. I thank God for your brotherhood.

Your friend, Thomas.”
