Romans 8:34 “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” *****
Lazarus' Resurrection Words By Gary Spreacker Tune to “Our God, Our Help in Ages Past 1. "Believe," said Christ. I am the Life. God's Glory you will see. All of my sons shall come to life, Mine from eternity.
2. Our Lord wept at a tomb one day. He groaned in love and prayed. With a loud voice He called, "Come forth." The dead His voice obeyed.
3. What hope this gives to us today! In sin and trespass, dead. His gospel voice calls to His own To rise as Jesus said.
***** You would pity me indeed! Dear friend, Wickedness prevails and increases in our city to a dreadful degree! Our streets are filled with the sons of Belial, who neither fear God, nor regard man. I wish my heart was more affected with what my eyes see and my ears hear every day! I am often ready to fear lest the Lord should show His displeasure in some dreadful way! And surely, if He were strict to mark all that is amiss—I myself would tremble! Oh, were He to plead against me—I could not answer Him one word! Alas! my dear friend, you know not what a poor, unprofitable, unfaithful creature I am! If you knew the evils which I feel within, and the snares and difficulties which beset me from without—you would pity me indeed! So much forgiven—yet so little love to Jesus. So many mercies—yet so few returns. Such great privileges—yet a life so sadly below them. Indwelling sin presses me downwards; when I would do good, evil is present with me! I can attempt nothing—but it is debased, polluted and spoiled by my depraved nature! My sins of omission are innumerable. In a word, there is . . . much darkness in my understanding, much perverseness in my will, much disorder in my affections, much folly and madness in my imagination! In short, I am a riddle to myself—a heap of inconsistency! Alas! when shall it be otherwise? I have a desire of walking with God—but I cannot attain unto it. Surely it is far better to depart, and to be with Jesus Christ—than to live here up to the ears in sin and temptation! But, "We have an Advocate with the Father." Here my hope revives! Though wretched in myself—I am complete in Him! He is my wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption. On this "Rock" I build—for time and eternity! --Letters of John Newton *****
His jewels! "And they shall be Mine, saith the LORD of Hosts, in that day when I make up My jewels:…!" Malachi 3:17 The promise of God is that His saints shall be as the jewels of a crown — yes, they shall shine in the Royal diadem! The Lord delights to call them His jewels! What a price has been paid for the saints — the Son of God purchased them with His own blood! Are they not valuable in His sight? How precious are those whom Jehovah calls His jewels! Bought with such an inestimable price! But the saints are likened unto jewels, also because our souls need cutting and purifying. A diamond seems to be a mere pebble — until the jeweler's hands give it shape and smoothness. Skill and patient toil so transform it, that everyone takes pleasure it its beauty and brightness. Likewise is it with our souls. Divine grace removes defects, and beautifies. The sharp edge of affliction, directed by the hand of Infinite Love — makes perfect. No longer rough and unsightly, but beautiful and glorious — the precious workmanship of God becomes His delight. It is made fit for the Royal diadem, in which it will shine throughout eternity — reflecting all-gloriously the majesty of the King of Kings! --William Purton, 1868 *****
“They Shall Not Depart From Me” –copied “And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good: but I will put My fears in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me.” (Jer. 32:40) And what is the evidence that the Lord has made this everlasting covenant with me? It is that He has put His fear in my heart. The fear that is the beginning of wisdom. The fear that makes a man afraid of sin! The fear that makes a man afraid to look anywhere but Christ alone! It is the fear that makes me fear departing from Him. Most who begin this heavenly path end up departing. The stony ground hearer departs in a highly visible way. The thorn-choked hearer has a gradual departure. It may be that his body never departs. He remains a church-member, but he brings forth no fruit. The “cares of this world and deceitfulness of riches and the lust of other things” lead him to depart. But those who do not depart, and continue walking with Christ, they are the ones He has evidently made an everlasting covenant with. He has put His fear in their heart, so that they will not depart from Him. ***** SCRIPTURE READING AM: Galatians 2:11-21 SCRIPTURE READING PM: Romans 9:25-33
