The second dog I ever had was such a pretty brownish color and very friendly, playful and easy to love. I named her Lady. Lady went fishing with me, went to the field where I was hoeing or plowing or whatever the activity was. She even went the first mile with me on the way to school. We lived four miles from school and there was no bus on our little route. The first mile was a logging trail out to a gravel road that ran three more miles to Woodville School. Lady always stopped when we came to the highway and I told her good-bye for the day. Just like clockwork, Lady would meet me at the same spot in the afternoon wagging her tail. I always tried to save her a cookie or a bite of my lunch when I had some.

But all good things must come to an end. I’ve told many of you before, my first dog, “Trouble”, always caught and killed snakes until one bit him and he became history…so sad! Well, this dog did not chase snakes but she would run after every car that came by…so dangerous. I always dreaded the day when one was almost sure to hit her. We always wondered what Lady would do with a car if she ever caught one? She certainly couldn’t drive it. She was chasing after something she did not need. The day finally came when she dashed out barking after her last car which rolled over her head. Lady as gone and a crying lad stood by the road side grieving myself to death it seemed.

But Lady and her true story reminds me of thousands of men and women who are chasing after sin which can never satisfy the human soul. Some chase after porno; others run after drugs and dope of all descriptions. There are those who must rush into adultery and fornication, not believing they will suffer the consequences. Some are addicted to gambling which is a game where there are never any real winners. Satan can turn on his bright neon lights in the form of a casino and make it look attractive, but the sin will catch up with you. Sin is sin and sin does not pay. Don’t chase after it my friend. At the end it will bite like a serpent and sting like an adder…Proverbs 23:32.
