The Mighty Word of God Rev. A. J. Ogden
Many of us already know that apart from God we have no power to do anything. Hebrews 4:12 tells us, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” We stand transparent before an all seeing, all knowing, all powerful, but all loving God.
Let me share with you six points concerning the importance of studying God’s Word, the Bible:
The Word of God is a great gift to all who will receive it. Psalm 68:11, “The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it .” Share the word with others. The word of God giveth light for our pathway. Psalm 119:105, “They word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path .” The word of God is food. First Peter 2:2, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby .” Eat (study) the Bible daily to grow in grace and knowledge of God. The Word of God is pure. Proverbs 30:5, “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him .” We must look to God for our protection and security always. The word of God is faithful (dependable, reliable, steadfast). Titus 1:9, “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers .” The word of God is life. John 6:63, “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life .” Yes, the Bible is our compass, or shall we say, “Direction Book” for our lives as we sail sometimes on a stormy sea. Christ is the answer to every human problem. Trust him now without delay.
