These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Proverbs 6:16-19

Bible Conference in Ashland, Ky. at the Hurricane Road Grace Church, April 15-17. Frank Tate is the Pastor.

Scheduled speakers are:

Friday: Mike Walker and Gabe Stalnaker.
Saturday: Todd Nibert and Don Fortner.
Sunday: Chris Cunningham and David Eddmenson.

Our Advocate and Intercessor

The Lamb of God, once upon the cross, is now the Lamb upon the throne, possessing and exercising all power in heaven and in earth. Yet, He is still mindful of those for whom He suffered; His heart is made of tenderness; His bowels melt with love; He appears in the presence of God for them, as their great High Priest, Advocate, and Intercessor.

John Newton

When Is A Man Truly Saved

“But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood” (Gal. 1:15-16).

Someone asked, "When is a man truly saved?" Well, my friend, to be saved is more than to believe in one God, the demons believe that! It is more than just trembling under the preaching of the Word, Felix did that! It is not only to hold an office in the church, Judas did that! It is not submitting to the ordinance of baptism, Simon Magus did that! It is not only to weep over sin, Esau did that! It is not just respecting the preacher, Herod did that! It is not to keep company with outstanding believers, Demas did that. To be saved is to know God and Jesus Christ Whom He hath sent. It is to be a new creature in Christ Jesus, regenerated and converted by the power of God. It is to believe on Christ with the heart and confess Christ with the mouth. It is a miracle and deliverance accomplished through the preaching of the gospel and the work of God's Spirit.

When Will A Man Be Saved?

1). He will be saved when it pleases the Lord (Gal. 1:15).

2). He will be saved when he bows to and comes under the authority of the Lord Jesus! (Rom. 10:9-10).

3). He will be saved when he sees the redemptive glory of God in the face of Christ Jesus. (2 Cor. 4:5-6).

4). He will be saved when he can see the guilt of his sins before God and the sufficiency of Christ's life and death to provide him a perfect righteousness and a just atonement (2 Cor. 5:21).

Pastor Henry Mahan (bulletin article 1980)

STRONG CONSOLATION IN CHRIST

Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; (Heb. 6:17-19).

The “heirs of promise” have scriptural grounds for assurance and “strong consolation” in Christ. God gives to us these eternal supports to build us up in the faith of God’s elect (Titus 1:1). Notice four things!

1). God’s immutable counsel. That is His eternal decree to accomplish the salvation of His people to the praise of the glory of His grace (1Cor. 1:30-31). His decree or purpose is eternal and unchanging as His own character (Mal. 3:6). The Lord Jesus Christ was delivered for our sin according to the determinate counsel of God (Acts 2:23; Rev. 13:8). Our wise God is working everything out in our salvation to the counsel of His own sovereign will (Eph. 1:9-12; Rom. 11:36).

2). God’s confirmation by His oath. Interposing Himself or binding Himself and laying Himself under obligation as our Surety (Heb. 7:22), Sacrifice (Heb. 13:20) and Mediator (1Tim.2:5; Heb.8:6) of the covenant promise to secure our everlasting salvation in Jesus Christ (Heb.9: 12). Through Christ’s adoption of grace (Gal.4:4-6), the “heirs of promise” receive the whole inheritance of grace now and all glory hereafter (Heb. 6:12; Rom. 8:16-17; 1Peter 1:3-5).

3). God’s refuge of hope set before us. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself is that refuge (Psa. 62:5-8). This refuge is set before in the preaching of the gospel (Gal.3:1; Rom. 1:16). Our hope and refuge of salvation is revealed in the person of Christ, who entered into glory for us and is seated on the throne (Heb. 8:1; Heb. 9:24). His atonement (Heb. 1:3) and His enthronement is our eternal refuge and everlasting hope (Heb. 7:25).

4). God’s anchor for our soul, that is sure and steadfast. An anchor is used to secure the ship, to keep it safe in the storm and to prevent it from drifting, being held fast by something outside itself. Even so, the Lord Jesus Christ is that anchor of our soul, sustaining us and keeping us on the stormy sea of this troubled world (John 10:27-30; John 16:33). Surely, there is nothing both sure and steadfast in our sinful flesh (Psa. 39:5). However, our assurance of salvation rests upon the weight of the anchor that is anchored on the throne of God, within the Holy of Holies in the heavens (Heb. 9:24). Jesus Christ enthroned, ever living to intercede for us, to appear for us, is that anchor and security of our salvation (Rom. 8:32-35; Heb. 7:25).
