When is a church a cult?
Andy and Patty Grove never planned to settle outside of Texas. Their roots in the state reach back many generations. Patty’s ancestors came to Texas on a wagon train from Tennessee in the 1830’s (an elementary school in Houston is named for her great-grandfather); Andy’s father owned a tract of land that is now part of the posh Houston neighborhood of Hedwig Village. The two grew up a mere five miles away from each other in West Houston, where they attended Stratford and Memorial, rival high schools in Spring Branch ISD. They met while volunteering with Campus Crusade for Christ as undergraduates at the University of Houston in the late seventies. After marrying, in 1982, they settled in Arlington, where Andy took a job as the campus director of the University of Texas at Arlington’s branch of International Students, a Christian organization that works with foreign-exchange students. Oh, ok. So God has given us all those who call themselves pastors today? Along with those who call themselves prophets and apostles too?

Ironic request on a thread about 'cults.'

Isolation is a prime characteristic of cults..From LURs site edited for space

"Information control is practiced where members of the group are not allowed or discouraged to have contact with outside family members, other ministries or Christians that could influence them. This is done to prevent information that may expose what is going on internally. They cut off or denigrating outside sources of information, especially if it is critical of the group. One is not allowed to read or converse with those who say these things or was once part of the group and left for whatever circumstances. Ties are severed with former friends and family and the circle becomes tighter as the only people you are exposed are them. .. Anyone who challenges the cult's doctrine is automatically branded as an enemy which is usually anyone who disagrees. The cultists feel that they are being persecuted unfairly. On the other hand, true Christians accept persecution, knowing that it tests the genuineness of their faith. "

Oh boy, John. Well, I would agree that the church of Rome isn't a cult, but rather, a false religion which has been proven over and over. I once told you that you are not really Roman Catholic and you disagreed. I now fully agree that you indeed are. I know you think everyone here is nuts because your Baptist brother and Pentecostal nephew and neice in law who reside in Tulare California, USA say we are but your logic and views are so flawed, John. You have spent your life listening to those who make you feel good spiritually, and personally instead of investigating those things that are presented to you using the bible alone. God made you shy so there's nothing wrong with completely disregarding His Word if it might interfere with your comfort level. I admire your certainty along with your faith in Luther, and family members who can't be wrong.

I would like to bring up the question at what point are comments deemed innappropriate for this site?
John Yurick has continued to make statements that are antithetical and contrary to the position this site holds. I might be ok with it if he showed any desire to learn, as this is a teaching site. But he doesn't and continues to offer up opinions and take stands that are completely the opposite of the great MEN and SCHOLARS that are presented on this site. I feel it is mocking and inflamitory and with christian value should not be tollerated

What is wrong with brother Voddie and/or his teaching? I find him to be very illuminating and count him as one of my favorite teachers. The staff pick of "forgiveness" is an excellent choice. Good stuff in there.

John, your statement, "since the Catholic Church has always worshipped Jesus" is nonsense.
Of course when the Catholic Church was engaging in homicidal activity that had nothing to do with worshipping Jesus. But the Catholic Church was worshipping Jesus during the Mass when the Inquisition was going on. I got my definition of a Cult from the late D.
