SPECIAL REPORT
Bringing the Gospel of John to Every Home in Austin, TX

Update 2/7/14. We would like to give you a quick update on the status of the Austin campaign. The printing is complete. And the mailers have just shipped their last truckload! It will take some more days before every single copy is delivered but for all intents and purposes, we have officially completed this enormous effort! Click above to browse through some photos of the process.

A massive effort is underway. In the eleventh largest city in America there stands a building that once dominated the skyline. It is now simply known as “The Tower.” On its facade, is an inscription carved in giant letters of stone that has for 77 silent years proclaimed to the city words first spoken over 2000 years ago. “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” The words are very familiar and the building is a landmark perhaps more recognizable than any other in Austin. Familiar words to be sure, but what do they mean and who said them?

Each and every home in Austin, TX a city of nearly 840,000 people, will soon receive a copy of a 2,000-year-old document that will answer that question for any that care to read it.

The document: The Gospel of John was written by most accounts, around the year 90 A.D. by John, the youngest of the Apostles of Jesus Christ. It was penned near the end of his life as an eyewitness account of the life and works of Jesus of Nazareth. The Gospel of John is one of the best loved and most often quoted of the Gospels.

The Gospel of John Project

In an effort to re-introduce this historical eyewitness account of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ to people all over America, SermonAudio.com has partnered with the Trinitarian Bible Society in what it calls the Gospel of John Project. Through the collective support of hundreds of like-minded churches and individuals from around the world, the Gospel of John Project has steadily moved from one city to the next with the goal of printing and mailing as many copies of this unique book to as many homes across the country as is possible. Starting with just 13,000 copies printed and mailed to homes in New York City in 2008 the project has grown to include 21 cities with just over quarter of a million Gospels delivered.

A Generous Donor

Austin will be the 22nd city to be targeted, but what makes the Austin campaign so unique is that every single home in the entire city will be reached due to the heart desire of a single generous donor. Having lived more than 50 years of his life in Austin, he would now like to introduce its citizens to those immortal words from John’s Gospel and the One that spoke them once again.

People of Austin, look for a copy of the Gospel of John in your mailbox soon, and when it arrives see for yourself who this Jesus is. He is the Truth that will set you free.

Click here to keep track of this campaign..

While is Dr. Wallace's article is quite good, and he has reasons for his decisions, for example he points out Westcott thought that John was the author of this Gospel, any disagreements with Westcott. I still wonder about his dating on of the Gospel of John -- he can tolerate -- a late date for the writing Apocalypse. Out of curiosity I thought I would look up and see what Scofield, you know of Dispensations fame who wanted the later date as the article had. I even bothered a pastor at church with a phone call and he liked the later 90ish date also. So, Dan, you've been outvoted.

I would point out that this booklet if it follows the AV could very well be gibberish to 35+ of the population of Austin? It could be less or more depending on how well the recipients may understand Elizabethan. It should be noted that 35+ of the Austin population are of Hispanic descent. This means a very goodly number of them may not even know contemporary English. I would hope when SA and company send out Gospel booklets, to areas where English is not the only language used that they could make a combined booklet of English and, e.g., and some Spanish version, as from the Lockman Foundation.

Well bro, I wish my random access memory would have allowed me to do that.
However, back in the 80's, when I became very involved with outdoor evangelism, I used to memorise a lot of gospel texts. These texts of scripture became very precious to me, and in those days you would see those same texts on big posters at railway stations and outside some churches and on gospel waistcoats.
Mind you, as you rightly say that the KJV lends itself to memorisation, through my continual reading and studying of the Bible, I have now remembered a lot of portions of scripture simply through repetition of reading them.
No matter bro. Some only commit verses to memory. The main thing is that Gods word is being studied, thought on, prayed over etc. and producing fruit in us. Surely that's the objective.

I did do it with a brother in The Lord who is a close friend and we used to encourage each other along the way. Great to have friends like that, eh?

I decided many years ago to memorize the entire NT and the book of Psalms. Of course many other passages are now also committed to memory from usuage. And definitely THE Bible to use to do this is the KJV. No other bible works the same!

Beautiful passage! I memorized the books of Peter many years ago and though tough at the time, it blessed my soul no end. I'd highly recommend memorizing whole passages to people. Does the brain a whole lot of good and revives the soul, leads to prayer and thankfulness etc.

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

This is the sort of good news that I love to read. The people of Austin will receive the very words of eternal life, found in the gospel of John.
The gospel message in a nutshell is found in John 3:14-17, and in the same chapter are those all-important words "YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN".
What a book! So full of spiritual life and vitality, such instruction, such comfort. Christ-exalting, sinner-saving, the gospel of John also shows the reality of true Christian life, which involves the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
May the Lord be pleased to bless his own word to the salvation and setting free of many souls in Austin, Texas. And may God bless the TBS who supply these gospels at gospel prices.
I agree brother. I will pray this evening for this project. Thanks for commenting on it; your thoughts were a blessing to me.
