‘Tatted-Up, Foul-Mouthed’ Pastor Takes a Radically Different Approach to Teaching Scripture

Nadia Bolz-Weber‘s blunt preaching style differs greatly from what congregants generally see at traditional Christian churches. The tattooed Lutheran minister who believes in emphasizing “experience over rules” is an emerging star on the Christian left, but she doesn’t appear interested in embracing political labels.

While there is a growing group of believers interested in Bolz-Weber’s message, not everyone will be so enamored. For one, her use of what The Washington Post called a “frequently profane dialect” will certainly turn off more traditional church attendees. Still, she’s piquing the interest of others who are more theologically progressive in nature.

The 44-year-old pastor, profiled by the Post on Sunday, has an intriguing style that’s clearly driving interest in her theology, but it’s her personal story as much as her preaching chops that makes her an intriguing figure in the ...

Hi JJ, I see things a bit different in that I feel like the followers of Christ need to know what we are up against at all times...people, places, and things. I feel like I always need to be ready to give an answer either to why something is good, or why it isn't, why someone should be listened to, why they shouldn't, etc. In this case, now I know who this woman is, so if someone should ever tell me that I should listen to her; that I should check her out, or that their curiosity is peaked in any way, I can now tell them to run, and why, as opposed to simply saying, "who's that"?
You know what phrase always makes me cringe? Progressive Christianity.
Hi Christopher

If we didn't give them free publicity you would not be asked about her unless you are directly in her circle. You dont need to know about every false teacher all you have to do is study Church history, there is nothing new the same heresies are repeated over and over, So i respectfully disagree with your view that we need to know every name of every false teacher, there is no such thing as bad publicity, All publicity is good publicity. Giving them attention only bolsters their cause.

Regardless of the ELCA, the conservative Lutheran arm is seven times larger than the conservative Presbyterians. But where are the Kellers, Sprouls and Hortons? For some reason God is whack-pruning and burning most of his Christian garden. Now is the time to cross pollinate between the remaining handful of orthodox denominations and pastors.

Why does SermonAudio feel the need to promote this woman to its audience ?

I think the editor of the news section should be asked why we need to know about this woman ? What good has this article done for us. Do we need to know about every heretic out there ? must we give them our attention ? is that not what they are seeking ?

Does SermonAudio care ?

That woman must be a Lutheran minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church In America which is the only Lutheran synod that permits the ordination of women as ministers. The Evangelical Lutheran Church In America is the only unscriptural synod of the Lutheran Church. All other Lutheran synods are scriptural since they only permit the ordination of men as ministers.

Another minister of Satan. The only worse than this heretic, is the sad fact that people who claim to be Christians actually believe and follow what she teaches.

2Peter 2:1-2 "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of."
