Pope Francis assures atheists: You don’t have to believe in God to go to heaven
In comments likely to enhance his progressive reputation, Pope Francis has written a long, open letter to the founder of La Repubblica newspaper, Eugenio Scalfari, stating that non-believers would be forgiven by God if they followed their consciences.

Responding to a list of questions published in the paper by Mr Scalfari, who is not a Roman Catholic, Francis wrote: “You ask me if the God of the Christians forgives those who don’t believe and who don’t seek the faith. I start by saying – and this is the fundamental thing – that God’s mercy has no limits if you go to him with a sincere and contrite heart. The issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience.

“Sin, even for those who have no faith, exists when people disobey their conscience.” ...

@June Annette,I wish you could see the big smile on my face right now! The Lord led me to Pastor Pickett a few weeks ago through Sermon Audio.
From what I have already heard preached I would add my Amen to your comments concerning him.
Looking forward to hearing more of his sermons this evening.
We too have shared with our RC family the gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ..but as of yet the Lord has not opened their hearts.
We storm the throne of Grace daily for I'm sure you also do for your family.
John 6:37.To God be the Glory!

Dorcas, I am very familiar with Richard Bennett and am a frequent visitor to his site! As opportunity presents itself at other forums, I have directed readers there as well. I have also shared some of his articles with family members who are "devoutly Catholic" only to have them returned. I am familiar with Ralph Ovadal's website as well.
My husband Ralph and I sit under the ministry of Pastor Michael Pickett, a most faithful and gifted Instructor in Christ! The Lord placed him in our path some years back & we continue to be blessed by his preaching/teaching ministry thru SermonAudio. He speaks out of the good treasure of his heart and Ralph and I have found his preaching to be instructive, edifying, encouraging, and comforting in our walk with the Lord. He does not employ levity in his preaching, but rather rightly proclaims the Word of God with great reverence and solemnity.
He is a faithful servant of the Lord who takes most seriously the charge God has given him to watch over the souls which He has entrusted to him.
We esteem him very highly in love for his work's sake!
(1 Thess. 5:13)
Pastor Michael Pickett / Old Paths Strict Baptist / Choteau, MT

Dorcas . . You have spoken the truth in love. ". . what concord hath Christ with belial?" (II Cor. 6:15-17)
The papacy is the very seat of antichrist & the RC "church" is the Whore spoken of in Revelation 17. While they purport to be guardians of the Truth, they are in truth, purveyors of lies! Sadly many both in RC and in other denominations who have false ecumenical ties with them are deceived. There but by the grace of God go you and I!
Peter Doeswyck, Ex-Jesuit Priest,(D.D.Patrologist, Medievalist, Church Historian) exposes the diabolical deception that forms the foundation for the false "church" of Rome which can be read in it's entirety here: Romanism-Build Upon Forgeries! / By Peter J. Doeswyck / Source/ Website: Mission to Catholics /
A brief excerpt:
“The entire structure of the Roman Church is built on forgeries, spurious epistles, spurious sermons, spurious miracles, spurious relics, spurious councils, and spurious papal bulls. The Catholic Encyclopedia admits the existence of thousands of forgeries and divides the works of nearly every Father into (1) genuine, (2) dubious, and (3) spurious. Roman inventions as Peter’s martyrdom at Rome (2nd cent.), Assumption of Mary (6th cent (end quote)
SATAN is the father of lies!

Jim, I was pretty certain you knew about the Isidorian Decretals and the Donation of Constantine, but most Roman Catholics do not . . anyway . . I didn't until recently. I have known for sometime now (20+ years) that the RC "church" is not doctrinally sound but I did not know of these forgeries used to legitimize the "papacy". I came across this rare admission by the RCC regarding their assertion of supremacy over Christ's church and the supposed transmission of Peter's authority / “apostolic succession”, a claim they have consistently put forward and based upon an erroneous interpretation of Matt. 16:16-18 aka “Petrine text” . . to wit:
From the Vatican website (

(start quote) "6. The New Testament contains no explicit record of a transmission of Peter’s leadership; nor is the transmission of apostolic authority in general very clear. Furthermore, the Petrine texts were subjected to differing interpretations as early as the time of the Church Fathers. " (end quote)
Such is the diabolical spirit of Roman Catholicism. Deception is their very stock and trade.

Yes, June, thanks for the links telling us about some of the actions The Papacy.

My pastor preached on some of the nonsense surrounding the papacy and this particular pope quite recently, q.v., Jesus Christ, Our One & Only High Priest and
Requirements of Every High Priest

But this Vicar of Satan is probably not teaching anything new, because Billy Graham was following the Romish model before Frannie got in, Billy Graham Believes Catholic Doctrine of Salvation Without Bible, Gospel, or Name of Christ.

Anyway, again, June, thanks for references to, Pseudo-Isidorian Decretals, But the false church really started earlier than the 8th Century, Roman Catholicism: The Paganization of Christianity Constantine and the Catholic Church-State.

Thanks June! Yes, there are many inconsistencies within the Roman system. This was a perfect example. Your quote is the polar opposite of what John Paul II stated to the world's religious leaders along with doctrinal statements from Vatican II.

Sincere RC's will have a hard time reconciling the current pope's remarks with those of their former pontiff! Speaking “ex-cathedra”, Pope Boniface VIII declared: 1) "We, moreover, proclaim, declare and pronounce that it is altogether necessary to salvation for every human being to be subject to the Roman Pontiff." But GOD's WORD declares: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:13) Note: the prior verses, v. 11, 12, reveal that name to be Jesus Christ There is no plainer text in Scripture that puts the Doctrine of Christ in such concise language. Moreover, God's Word as it is found in II John, verse 9-10 warns believers not to receive those who “abide not in the doctrine of Christ”! The censure of Christ falls upon those who “add to and take away from the Word of God . . the Scriptures” (Rev. 22:18-19) That is precisely what Rome has done in proclaiming “obedience to the Pope” as necessary for Salvation. Nothing could be further from the TRUTH! The GOOD NEWS of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is that . . “He is able to save to the uttermost all those that come unto God by Him.” (Heb. 7:25)

SeaBass, no, he wasn't at that particular moment; he was simply reiterating a long held doctrine. This is a doctrine that isn't well known, but was declared in Vatican II, so it is a real, bonafide, current belief, teaching, doctrine, of the Roman church. This Pope basically repeated what John Paul II said to the worlds religious leaders back in the 80's. Paraphrasing, "We are all Heavenbound...we just have different ways of getting there."

Real Jim, I've watched several John A. Videos on YouTube. Pretty interesting. I especially liked the episodes when Walter Martin was on debating priests.

Well said, June. Ah Chris, as you pointed out this leaves the door open for all the various Mafias, be they Irish, Italian, or Latin American, think they can buy God. But works salvation is condemned by God, and thus all who practice it, Roman Catholics, Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses (PDF)

No, The Scandal of the Catholic Priesthood is not just the sexual abuse done by Roman Catholic Authority (PDF), but because it's completely unbiblical. There is nothing in the Bible about The Papacy either.

If Catholics want to go to heaven, they'll Come Out Of The Catholic Church (PDF).

I see that John Ankerberg may have changed all of his PDFs to HTMLs. So, you won't be running into that. Why did I go with the PDF version, Dr. Ankerberg supports the Old Earth idea, which my church doesn't support, and he advertised that boldly in his regular html section. So far I haven't seen that in his Wiki area.

How deceptively clever, and the precise reason that the Roman Catholic religion is so very attractive. Many of the world's worst of the worst were/are Roman Catholic because of her outrageous lies concerning Purgatory, priestly confession, indulgences, Marian pleas/orders to Christ on their behalf, and statement like this Pope just made.
This comment was straight out of the 2nd Vatican council and was reinforced by John Paul II as well. He went on to say that even athiests will gain entrance into Heaven as long as they follow their conscience.
So frustrating and it's beyond me how anyone here can defend them from time to time.

I thought what the Pope actually said was FAR worse than the title of the article. What PF said was, “Sin, even for those who have no faith, exists when people disobey their conscience.”

This antichrists words are far more damning than just not believing in God. Satan, for example, follows his conscience! What a terrible day for those in the RCC as their list of offenses against God grows. But praise God for those whom He has delivered!!!

Well lets face it, Why should the papal antichrist be bothered about people believing in God?

The Pope and the Roman catholic church doesn't believe in God or in Christ why should anybody else? If they did actually believe in God then they wouldn't practice idolatry to the extent which they do.

Psalm 53:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

Jim, Catholics are wrongly taught of their church to look to her “pope”, her “magesterium”, her “priests” and her “sacraments” . . to the merits of Mary . . the saints and their supposed good works for salvation. And thus through their traditions they have made the Word of God of none effect. (Mark 7:13) This is a denial of the fulness that is to be found in Jesus Christ alone and the perfect work Christ wrought out for the salvation of His people, which Christ Himself declared to be “finished.” (John 19:30) It denies the sufficiency, efficacy and virtue of the saving work of the Lord Jesus Christ as He is presented in the Gospel, and as such, is God-insulting and Christ-dishonouring. This is not the “truth as it is in Jesus”!
Catholics are told what to believe but those who are taught of the Spirit are expressly commanded to “look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” (Heb. 12:2) It is by God-given faith we are enabled to do so. Praise God I now possess such faith! Praise God . . I have Christ . . the “one thing needful.” (Luke 10:42) that “pearl of great price”. (Matt. 13:46)
“For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
