Leon Panetta, in one of his last acts as President Obama's defense secretary, is preparing to announce the policy change, which would open hundreds of thousands of front-line positions and potentially elite commando jobs after more than a decade at war, the Pentagon confirmed Wednesday.
The groundbreaking move recommended by the Joint Chiefs of Staff overturns a 1994 rule banning women from being assigned to smaller ground combat units. Panetta's decision gives the military services until January 2016 to seek special exceptions if they believe any positions must remain closed to women.
"This policy change will initiate a process whereby the services will develop plans to implement this decision, which was made by the secretary of defense upon the recommendation of the Joint Chiefs of Staff," a senior defense official told reporters on condition of anonymity....
The modern woman is becoming less and less female which is not only confusing the roles of women but also confounding society itself. Authority can only be authority when God providentially provides it. Authority without God is dominated by sin in mankind. Just as morals today are becoming less moral, the authority of female as God created her is becoming less feminine. Which applies to the male also.
Gender and family are the very seed of cohesion in society to remove them is destroy that society.
God does not bless society today. Thus the confusion (chaos) brought about by sin and the absence of God constructs a false and profligate western society where future generations can only disintegrate and deteriorate.

Quite right.
The problem here is that we have been fighting too many Banana Wars except the latest ones have been over oil instead of fruit. We think an all-volunteer army is good--and I do really, really hate the draft--but it serves one useful purpose, Presidents will be less likely to go with military adventures as "Baby-face" Bush and some others have. When the U.S. goes to war it will have to have a large portion of the population supporting that war. Oh, two useful purposes, women wouldn't be serving in combat roles, because of lack of personnel, and there would be just less women in the military with a draft.

Whether it's roles, dress, haircuts, or whatever, the gap seems to be closing fast and furious and the genders have lost their way. Does that sound chauvanist? I hope not. I just think men should be tough, upright, protectors, and should provide for their households in every way, both physically and emotionally and should be an example of morality and ethics for his family. I think the woman should be the mans lovely extension who supports him and fills in the gaps where he is lacking emotionally. I hope I came across in the right way.
Great comment, Christopher000! I am a lady but am not offended by it in the least.
I too am opposed to women being in combat roles. It is just another step in trying to make men and women identical, and we never will be. Women are to be gentle, tender, nurturing creatures. That balances a man's strength, courage, protective instincts, etc.
God actually knew what He was doing when He made men and women differently! We complement each other and are therefore drawn to each other. Oh, that we would abide by the plan of our Creator!
Thanks Angela. Most of what I ever have to say is either wrong or gets corrected in some way...ha-ha. Oh well, I learn a lot that way. Anyway, I'll pray for your grandaughter. I was thinking might be too early, but it's probably a great time since she is so impressionable right now. Everything she sees and hears right now is molding her.
Thanks Christopher! I agree wholeheartedly with you and am concerned for my 9 yr. old granddaughter who is growing up in this crazy time for men and women.
I'm sure that women will come at me for this but I feel that the front lines and other combat positions are no place for women...period. to me, this is no different than a man acting like a woman which is forbidden. Also, woman are just made different than men, both physically and emotionally.
I keep seeing so many ways in which Americans parallel the Romans. Then I see abominations like this and realize we are worse than the Romans and have become as the Barbarians.
