Study: Protestants Struggle Most With Temptation of Eating Too Much
The most common temptation that Protestants admit to is eating too much, according to a Barna study.
Compared with Catholics (44 percent) and the rest of the American public (55 percent), Protestants (66 percent) are most likely to say they are often or sometimes tempted by eating too much.
On other temptations, Protestants struggle on a similar level as other American adults. Fifty-eight percent of Protestants (vs. 60 percent all adults) say they are tempted by worrying or being anxious; 57 percent of Protestants (vs. 60 percent all adults) say they struggle with procrastinating; 42 percent (vs. 44 percent all adults) say spending too much time on media is often or sometimes a temptation; and 40 percent (vs. 41 percent all adults) list being lazy or "not working as hard as you should" as a struggle....
A recent documentary revealed some amazing researched facts about food currently being manufactured that I would dearly love to never enter the door of a supermarket ever again. But alas I have no land, and am unable to produce much. But this year I will have go at patio tub growing of potatoes, tomatoes and maybe strawberries. Any other ideas will be very much welcomed, because this mass-produced junk I buy in the shop is making me ill.
cutting back on eating will not solve the problem for someone who has diabetes or thyroid disease. the food has to be nutritious and properly preparded in the first place. have you looked at the changing ingredients? back when I was a kid gum was gum, now its all got aspartame. every single last brand. who do you know that is avoding these additives and taking their probiotics within the food, etc?
what I'm saying is that if you want a control group who is eating right, in the sense of how 3 generations ago a family would prepare meals for a family, the yogurt or buttermilk fresh from the animal, the pre-gmo grain, the fresh greens, etc...... and is overweight... then by all means they need to cut back.
seems to me the older generation does not want to deal with the food situation, but rather have become feminist industrialists and revel in it, will not give it up, and have nothing to say to the generation facing autism, asthma, decline in fertility and intelligence and tell em, "quit eating so much and join me for lunch at mickie d's".
by the way, I love antecdotes, and other forms of personal testimony. especially stories that turn out well and give glory to God.

(hmmm, what could cause so many autoimmune diseases, where the immune system has been put into overdrive and starts attacking itself?) In 1970, 1 child in 1750 was diabetic, today its 1 in 450. or autism -- 1 in 150 now? and its probably higher. the society is in decline
Church, morals and sound doctrine are in decline too. The reason is that God no longer blesses western societies, as Romans Chapter one describes. The nation who rejects God declines in ALL ways including health. The end is nigh???
Look at how direct God's control is on everything .... 13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed: 14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit. Isaiah 65

You're dead in the water right there. Statistics & anecdotes prove nothing. Not just atheists need to be reminded of this, apparently.
As I said below, one can completely avoid food additives & still get overweight, or else gluttony would not've been a problem in Bible times. And note all those chubby people portrayed in art as late as the 19th Century.

the society is in decline. and obesity is not just due to overeating. look at autoimmune diseases such as low thyroid, which is rampant in the west now. I've known people cured simply by taking Iodine.... because americans are low on iodine in their diets. without this valuable knowledge, the patient gains weight, gets criticized for eating too much, and doctor puts the patient on psychotropic drugs. I've seen this happen too many times!
it is pathetic! where is the older generation to teach the younger about traditional foods?
we say that feminism has destroyed the family. well, church, this is what it looks like when women and men give up their God-given role to provide for their families through the land. there is no substitute for healthy meals and traditional methods of preserving. we have not found it. darwins feminist industry neuters

I agree & sympathize with your attempt to stay on-topic, since there are some here who take every opportunity to divert to their hobby-horse of Nutritional Legalism, grounded not in Sola Scriptura but fallacious science, an epistemological Blind Alley. Who knows, there may be some pseudo-Christian cults out there which make this their organic doctrine.
Evidently, gluttony occurred in ancient times despite the lack of modern chemical food additives.
The point I was trying to make is that (praise the Lord!) we still have a knowledge of classic Protestant and Puritan teaching in America, and this is why folks are admitting to being "tempted" to overeat and/or be "lazy." Frankly, I like to see masculine men with some muscle and meat on their bones and ladies to actually look feminine with a few classic curves, as well.
when food is malnutritioned and full of poisons, you will get hungrier and have to eat more and never feel satisfied.
proper and nutritous food is fulfilling and satisfying.
many of these chemicals, such as MSG, have an addictive quality to them, making the eater want more and more, and the neurological impact of these chemicals has got to have an effect on the adrenal glands, wouldn't it? evidenced by the many living on caffeine.
if you compare meat and eggs from properly nourished animals verses locked up in cubicles, and fed animal parts, filled with disease and then given antibiotics to cover that whole problem.... the prior foods have vitamin levels much higher than the latter.
strawberry flavor is not the same as a strawberry.
I have found Weston Price material to be very helpful. and of those diseases talked of as "genetic", I have seen people healed through God's provision.
evidence abounds. our industrialized imitations are not food. who knew, when God said to work the land (Adam) and have children (Eve) He meant it? we take abortifacients to stop the babies and chemicals to replace the health we could find in God's provision.
who needs sodium bicarbonate to wipe out cancer, when you've got mustard gas, WWI chemical warfare agent?

Alas, where have all those church photo directories from a hundred years ago gone?

We are most fortunate then. Some people groups still do not have a single verse of scripture in their own language.
