Theologians Tackle 'Should Christians Vote for a Mormon for President?'

Should Christians vote for a Mormon presidential candidate? That's the question many evangelicals are grappling with as the November election draws near.

While pondering the ramifications of a Mormon in the White House, some prominent Southern Baptist theologians have emphasized that whatever happens on Election Day will not affect the work of the Kingdom of God.

"The Kingdom is not riding on whatever happens on election day and the church's mission isn't going to change regardless of what happens ... on Election Day," said Dr. R. Albert Mohler, president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, on Tuesday.

During a panel discussion at the Louisville seminary, Mohler recognized that the hardest issue for many "thoughtful" evangelicals is not merely political. The question on their minds is, "What does it mean worldwide for a Mormon, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day ...

"Should Christians vote for a Mormon presidential candidate?"

Good news.
There is a real Bible believing Christian who is Reformed, True Evangelical, Baptist, Presbyterian, Calvinist, Arminian, An Independent Republican of the old school, Church goer,-good church, against all moral decline and anti-Liberal, .....
Running for president.

However the Baptists wouldn't vote for him because the Presbyterians were, and vice versa, and the Arminians wouldn't vote for him because the Calvinists were, and vice versa, The old school wouldn't vote for him because the modernists were and vice versa. Some of the church goers couldn't agree on his church being quote "good" and of course all the Liberals, Democrats and immoralists didn't vote for him so.......

So he went back to being a Carpenter!!

TLC slandering sa (SERMON AUDIO) and at last his posts are removed as he appears as Taking A Public Stand...well done MA!

I agree with him for once that we are not all stupid here as we can discern inane posts which demonstrates the real heart of those that post them.

I am 100% convinced that TLC appears just to sow discord and make Bible Christians look like they have severe mental problems. No bible believer could be taken in by such. View his posts on life on the moon before 1969 and much worse. Now he even discredits Sermon Audio...only like a wolf in sheeps clothing appearing within the ranks.

The Lord knows what you are TLC so time to repent like David did in this evening's Spurgeon Devotional... if you do possess any spiritual life at all (I personally doubt such) you will take heed.

Your addiction to the jesuits might suggest much, eh? as you pretend to be an off beam and off the wall extreme KJV ONLYIST loony fundamentalist?

Why? Have you no friends or a jigsaw?

Why waste your time here?

Independent Voter wrote "The Mormon, if elected, will do everything he can to destroy the testimony of Jesus Christ who also saved and is saving lives."
That is just as insane as when Kennedy ran for president in 1960 and some Protestants stated that he would be taking orders from the Vatican. Romney will not be using Mormon teachings to dictate policy. Kennedy did not use Catholic teachings to dictate policy. Voting for an Independent presidential candiate is useless as an Independent presidential candidate does not stand a chance of winning the presidency. If Obama is re elected then abortion will continue to increase and homosexual marriage will become the law of the land. But if Romney is elected then abortion will decrease and homosexual marriage will not become the law of the land. It is much better for morality to come back to the United States if Romney is elected.

@Barry from KY and others...
I do "get" what you are saying. Until we change the hearts of the individual, here is one novel idea--teaching abstinence until marriage for instance--, we will still have abortions in this country even if they do become illegal again. If Romney/Ryan do manage to overcome the One this year there will no doubt still be abortions, but they will be harder to get. My contention is that if there is even one less abortion under Romney/Ryan then they are worthy of my vote. I further argue that when the Democrats are in office, our tax dollars are used to fund overseas abortions. I'll pull a Biden and say "fact check me". When Bush was in office there were in fact (potentially) less abortions due to the fact that our tax dollars did not fund them.

I "get" that both parties are evil, but I'll choose the lesser evil every time. The Republicans official platform is pro-life and the Democrats official platform is pro-death. I'll never vote Democrat because of this.

Bush and Reagan were ridiculed by a hostile media and much of society for their anti-abortion "political expediency." No doubt they were confused about its purpose.

When JFK ran for president, the same voices predicted we would answer to the Pope if he became president. I'm still looking for a papal bull to be issued for the overturning of the US Constitution. But I think that effort will continue to be led by the anti-religious.

I would not even consider voting for a Mormon for president but since I am a conservative Republican then I have to vote for Romney. Either Obama will win or Romney will win. There is no way that an Independent presidential candidate can win the presidency. So voting for an Independent presidential candidate is useless. Why would anybody in their right mind vote for an Independent presidential candidate when an Independent candidate can't possibly win the presidency at the present moment in history? There are not enough Independent voters for an Independent presidential candidate to win the presidency.

Obama lifted the ban his first week.
Reagan was the first to ban the funding, which ban was continued by Bush 1, but Clinton lifted the ban in his first week in office.

Hmm, IV, most of what you say is correct, I think one of the main reason Mr Mitty is running is to push Mormonism, A Mormon in the White House? 10 Things Every American Should Know About Mitt Romney an article done by an ex-Mormon, Christian. Not that it is not all that hostile to Mitty, but this is, "If you fear Obama, you'll vote for Romney. If you fear God, you won't." --Prolife Profiles Mitt Romney

However, as my signature Scripture for the political parties in this election (and probably should be for almost all of them, )

1 Corinthians 6
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.---NASB

While the first verse describes what the Democrats encourages the second verse describes what the Republicans encourage. Repub. Corruption.

There will always be abortions whether you like it or not until we change the hearts of the ones caring those precious gifts from God! I beleive we are attacking the wrong thing. If Romney/Ryan gets in office there will be no decrease in abortion. If that were the case then why wasn't there a decrease with Bush/Cheney, Bush/Quail, Reagan/Bush???
Again, let's vote our concious, but please don't expect results such as these!!!

think hard, thanks for your comments, I'm not telling anyone to vote democrat. All I'm saying is if you vote republican and romney get's in there will still be the problems that we have now. My point is we are putting our faith, energy, and good works in the wrong area. Vote for whom you wish, it simply doesn't matter that much. We the people are corrupt. The politico's are just a representation of us. That's my point.

Conrtradiction!!
What Mohler apparently believes is that the mormon in the Whitehouse will cancel salvation for some of the elect.

Is he an Arminian or what???

Lets face it
Vote Democrat you get more of the same. Satan Obama the deceiver et al.
Vote independent and you help the Democrats by reducing the Republican numbers.
Vote Republican and there is going to be some changes to America's future.

At this election what the Christian should seek is the removal of the obvious evils that have come upon America by Liberalism - the Democrat mind set and policy.

Lets face it Liberalism has poisoned an awful lot of churches in recent times. Beware of its malevolent power.
(Oh and look at UK/Europe )

What makes you think it is a good thing to make abortions safer for the mother? That's like saying we should make rape safer for the rapists. NO. The murder of a child Should NEVER be safe EVER.

There is no guarntee that they would vote the way we want, even with a conservative court. Look at the Affordable Care Act and Judge Roberts...

The States could force the issue. However, for political expediency they have not chosen to go that route.

Overturning Roe v Wade is useless. Sure, it might make abortion illegal, but that will do nothing but make abortions less safe for the mother. The goal is not to make abortion illegal. We need to learn from Prohibition. The goal is to convince the people that abortion is wrong. Once that happens, making abortion illegal is easy. Just look at what happened when the government tried to take away something that the general public didn't see as bad.

Don't be deceived. Protect life? Voting for Romney won't stop a single abortion. It's been the law of the land since 73'. No administration, Republican or Democrat has changed that. You have to look at the other issues a candidate stands for as well, caring for the poor, etc when considering who you will vote for.
One thing is certain, when the Mormon calls for a day of pray, God to bless America, etc. will God hear him? Probably no more than he has when Obama does similarly, but know this, Mormonism is a direct attack on who God says he is and what he is not. God will not look past that sin.
Ultimately, God will be the one who determines who will sit on the throne and who will not!
