New American Bible changes some words such as "holocaust"
A new edition of one the most popular English-language Bibles will offer substitutes for words such as "booty" and "holocaust" to better reflect modern understanding, a Catholic group said on Wednesday.

Nearly 50 scholars from all faiths and a committee of Roman Catholic bishops have labored since 1994 over the first fresh edition of the New American Bible since 1970, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said.

The annual best-seller to be issued by a dozen publishers beginning next week on Ash Wednesday "is a beautiful translation -- it's a new way to look at an old love," said Mary Sperry, who oversees Bible licensing for the bishops. ...

So true John! But theres so much controversy on which bi ble is right and which ones are corrupt! I say we should not just have a strong opinion on one version but use more than one version for studying.so we can compare and get a more full understanding of some verses. Agree??

IMHO we would do better in seeking to bring people to salvation and then after that to living as bondservants of Jesus Christ rather than convert them to the KJV against their will. Now if after being saved they of their own free conscience choose to use the KJV that it wonderul but we shouldn't make the issue of the KJV as stumbling block either in people being save or serving Christ after they are.
Who mentioned the KJV? Not I, brother.

Besides which, if you apply your statements to that wretched committee who have just come up with yet another version, you are making more sense. They have not been interested since 1994 in seeing people saved; rather they've been working their little hearts out making a new translation and seeking how best to get more filthy lucre for the Vatican. But I don't see you having a go at them.

Seems the unending discussion of Bible translations continues.

To me it is far more important that people have a heart to listen to what God says to us in Scripture in context. Why! I am of the opinion that even Roman Catholics with their Roman Catholic translation would come to salvation if they husmbly did that and heeded what God says.

I wonder here for a moment, 'Does Westboro (I hate to use word for this ultra Calvinistic cult(?)) Baptist Church (ab)use the KJV?'

Not much to differentiate between some indy Baptists and the papacy is there? But that's what happens when Bible publishers accept manuscripts found in the Vatican Library and promote them over the TR. Manuscripts like the er...ahem....Vaticanus. The time is coming when I shall start posting exactly what is IN the Vaticanus. Maybe then, more folks will see that the roots of the modern versions are sunk deep into hell, gaining their strength and succour from the devil himself.

The ecumenical wheel keeps turning, and Protestant churches keep falling for the lies of the "scholars". Modernisation is the IN thing, and if you're not modernising you're stagnating. Peer pressure like this is bad enough from the world, but when it's from fellow believers .... phew!

Papa will catch out not only the Anglicans, but all who do not "take heed". One big net he's got, and now an NAB no less.
