Billy Graham still preaches the Gospel of inclusion
MONTREAT, N.C. â Every morning the worldâs most famous evangelist walks slowly and carefully up the narrow road twisting behind his log cabin. He sits on an iron bench, set in a clearing amid the pines where a tiny stream plunges down the ridge to form an icy pool far below.
Here, Billy Graham, 86 and every day more frail, prays, âHelp me, Lord.â Here, he practices his voice, a habit of 40 years, âlike an opera singer does the scales. Yes. Yes. Yes. No. No. No.â
Heâs warming up for his 417th crusade â three nights of Christian testimony and music in New York, culminating in his inimitable call to come forward to God. The event in late June will be his first appearance in the city since he packed Central Park in 1991.
Today, as many fundamentalists and âtraditionalistsâ refuse to share podiums with people who donât share their vision of salvation, Graham opens his events to people of every...
Mr. Michael: There is a distinct difference in the Kingdom of Heaven and the Kingdom of God. One speaks of a literal place, while the other speaks of a state of spiritual existence. Don't mix the two. Even though it's impossible for anyone to get into Heaven's gates being a sinner, especially since Jesus delivered us all, it is possible for a person to posess citizenship within their heart and yet be guilty and yet innocent of sin. Sure! Who is God condemning when there is no more condemnation (Romans 8:1)? Better yet, bless are those whose sins are not being stockpiled for some awful day of judgement (Romans 4:7-8). If God is going to judge anyone for their sins in the manner that is being implied, then He has to judge everyone, including you, especially since He has no respector of persons. But thanks be to God for our Advocate, Jesus Christ, Who is not only our Advocate, but He is also the Advocate of the entire World (1 John 2:1-2). What the verse you used is actually saying is that no one will be able to flow in Kindgom power when sin is prevalent in their life, because the sin, not God, will hinder them from doing so. But it does not say that they'll miss Heaven. For what sin will this happen because of since Jesus has already dealt with all sin in full?
I know quite well what 1 John 1:10 & 2:4 says about being a liar. And I also know how a person makes God a liar, which is not by them standing up for His Character as I am. But rather, the way in which God is made to be a liar is by not believing His record concerning Jesus Christ (1 John 5:10). In fact, what I am saying makes God everything but a liar, especially if you compare what I am saying versus what you are saying. To reduce God's eternal love to anything less than eternal is to remove God's words and substitute them with your own. So to not accept God's statements concering His Son's purpose and victory is to make God a liar, which is more of what you and others who are doing by condemning those who choose to believe God's eternal love and forgiveness. What sin is there that God has not forgiven through the shed blood of Jesus (Col. 2:13;3:13). Even the sins that you mentioned have been forgiven, even before they've been committed. Yes! Just think about it: Any sin that God has ever forgiven you and I of were sins of the future, especially when God forgave us in and through what Christ did thousands of years before we were ever born to commit any wrong. Now that's some Good News; that's the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That's Redemption!
Why is it that we believers seem to always sound Phariseic in our retorts? Why can we not respond in more down-to-earth terms as Jesus did? This is part of the reason why so many people have rejected God this long. People are tired of those who seem to know all the correct verses of Scripture, but who have absolutely no ability of understanding and wisdom to applicate it in terms that would lead someone to believe beyond external religion. God is looking for a people who are able not only to spew out Phariseic black ink from paper, but for those who can take that ink from paper and make it relevant, which of course demands spiritual aptitude. It is a good thing to know Scripture. But it is an inditement to know scriptures, as far as their addresses and zip codes, and yet not know the scriptures themselves, or rather the God of the scriptures. Remember, Jesus was crucified by people who were estute in the scriptures, and yet they ruthlessy persued God Himself until they seemingly succeeded with what they thought was ultimate victory. And they did that with so-called scriptures, or rather with the Law, which is what you just quoted: a bunch of legal terms, with no means of grace or love. Please don't go back to what you were suppose to have left. (More)
Eph 5:2-7 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
1 John 5:9-12 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
The reason that God is so ALL HOLY is because He has no vendetta against even the worst of so-called sinners. Did Jesus not tell us that God will and does rain on the just as well as the UNJUST, and on the thankful as well as the UNTHANKFUL. If He died for Judas, then surely He died even for those whose minds are so warped by sin and deception that they are unable to come to grips with the truth of Christ. The truth of Christ is that just as Jesus asked God to forgive those around His cross who so adamently denied His claim and so violently crucified Him, He is in Heaven at the right hand of the Father making loving and graciously understanding intercession for even those who today are still rejecting His message. This is why the Word says that God has given each of us the ministry of RECONCILIATION, which instructs us to preach to the WORLD about the peace that God has wrought through Jesus Christ.
What if some do not believe? Does that make the words or faith of God of no effect? God forbid. (Romans 3:3-4)(1 Thes. 5:24)
Do you believe that mercy and grace are not even necessary until the situation requires it? Well, the situation of unbelievers and rejectors requires God's mercy and grace. So why would God not give it to those who need it most?
How is it that you believe that oil is the fuel behind sin? Where was oil at play in the Garden of Eden? Where was there ever mention of a shortage of oil in the Beginning? And even if we were to focus on oil as you recommend, how will that work out our salvation as far as eternity goes? Is it oil that God was trying to save by sending Jesus? Or was it the souls of the entire WORLD? And yes, I do believe that oil can be synthethized cheaply, or rather that other methods can produce oil: Prayer and wisdom! Ever heard of these? Oh! These two, prayer and wisdom, are two forms of spiritual matter that are sure to bring forth the OIL that can never be fabricated, making reference to the presence and anointing of the HOLY SPIRIT.
As many as are ordained to be saved eternally means that you are ascribing to the TRUTH that Jesus did ordain the whole world to be eternally saved, because if He did truly die for the world, then the world has to be eternally saved, even though the entire world has not yet fully accepted this fact at or upon the altar of your church, denomination, or tower of babel (?).
Now that you are back in this most interesting dialogue between mature believers, please don't side-track yourself or others, if you can help it.
There is a serious flaw in the 'logic' of those who think the All Holy God is so loving that He will allow fallen, wicked and sinful men to reject, mock and blaspheme the Son whom He gave as an atoning sacrifice for their sin into His heaven let alone into His family.
God is quite good and very ready to forgive and He does abound in mercy that is utterly staggering to those who call upon Him in truth. The Bible simply gives no promise of God hearing those who think they have no sin and likewise those who believe any other gospel.
Have you ever wondered that just maybe the verse that speaks about the Way being narrow does not have such a narrow meaning as you seem to imply? After all, doesn't the Word say that God's thoughts and ways are not limited to our finite thoughts and ways? What God actually says, He actually means. But the problem lies with our thoughts and interpretations of what God said and means. We tend to humanize God's words and reduce them to fit into our peon minds, thus making God's true meaning of no effect, neither upon the hearts of the hearers nor upon our own hearts. If the way to salvation was as narrow as some seem to imply, how is it that Jesus was able to save the WHOLE WORLD through this so-called narrow path? See, it doesn't make sense. One interpretation of this particular passage is that even though there are many so called religions and gods, there is only ONE true pathway to God, that being the Gospel that both Graham and Schuller preach. So how can they be heretics, liers, wolves, or any other negative word you so easily label them as? Do you know that your actions are more in line with the Pharisees, and their actions are more in line with Christ? But of course this too was prophesied by Jesus in John 16:1-3. Don't get mad, but please do REPENT.
Dan, Do you not feel any kind of nudging in the area of your conscience for speaking against men who have been used by God to bring so many people into the knowledge of God in Christ? Do you not respect the vessels that God has used so awesomely, even while you were still in your days of sin? Yes, while he was preaching to millions, you were probably bogged down in a life of sins. And now that you have been graced up and loved up by God's eternal forgiveness, are you now more cleaner, or rather more gooder, than Graham and Shuller? Isn't it amazing how we so easily forget what state we were in not too long ago? Isn't it something how our minds can be duped into thinking so negatively about other until we blind ourselves from our own personal sins and failures? And isn't it something how if we were to focus more on our own ills that we wouldn't have time to focus on the so-called ills of our neighbors? In fact, Jesus said that we are to be loving on our neighbors rather than knawing on them, especially when they're our brothers in Christ. If it's not by God's grace, then it's by our works. And if this is the case, in which we know it isn't, then both Billy and Shuller will make it int Heaven before either of us ever will. Prayer is a definite fixer of our neighbor.
Here is a link to the sermonaudio page where you can listen to Schuller being interviewed followed by Schuller with Billy as they discuss their heresy openly. Just listen to the first 12 minutes to hear the narrow Way being turned into a multi-lane interstate highway.
It is a sad for believers when they choose for themselves who is and who isn't born of God. Who made either of us a judge of Someone elses servants? Who are we to determine who God has and will continue to save? How do any of us believe that we can alter the mind and will of God? Especially as it relates to the finished works of Christ. You are sadly and ignorantly mistaken if you believe that someone has to be of some religious affiliation, such as belonging to a particular church, denomination, or cultish belief. Have you ever discovered in your reading of the Gospels that Jesus never gave an exact formula for anyone to be saved? Have you ever read in the Word that Jesus is the Savior of the World, which includes everyone that you perhaps exclude? Has it ever dawned on you that Nothing is too hard for God, NOTHING? Do you believe that God will have the last say in each person's eternal destiny? Do you believe that you can undo what Christ has done for the ENTIRE world? Do you believe that every knee shall bow and that every tongue shall confess Jesus as being their Savior, which is exactly what gets a person into the loving family of God? Or do you believe that whoever leaves the realm of your personal ability to judge them is eternally doomed? Come on, learn God.
Neil, obedience to God is most important, preaching the Gospel is important, that I do not deny, and I am not suggesting otherwise, I posted that link because this issue, will likely affect all of you and, being informed you might make wise preperation to provide for your family in the event of such a crisis, by moving towards self sufficiency, because if this sinful system which all are reliant on, which is powered by oil, runs out of oil, ya all might be a bit hungry amongst other things, I suggest getting out of the tower of babel, and moving to some land where you have room enough to grow ya own food, and are removed from the imminent chaos in the concrete jungle!
You said: coal can be synthesized into oil. Cheaply?
John Y, your stmts elsewhere that you "don't care" what the priest says or believes are evidence of indifference to truth; in fact we are studying that very issue in John 8 at my church. The Jews there "believed" Christ yet desired to kill Him! Do the words of Christ "have a place" in your heart? Do you apply them in your weekday life? There's more to faithfulness than church issues - it's for all of life.
Yes, there may be saved people in false churches, but if they are "seeds on fertile ground," they won't remain long. And there are also unsaved persons in sound churches.
E, lack of belief, not oil, is my concern. In any case, as the Germans proved, coal can be synthesized into oil. Cheaply? Probably not. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. That's how it always goes.
Billy Graham is a man of God. His message is God's message. Is he perfect? No! For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. He is just like us in that regard except in his calling. He is much more faithful than the many who pretend to be ambassadors for Christ yet really are not. His passion is to win an many as he can unto Christ, just as the Apostle Paul became all things to all men in order to save some. Unfortunately, some glory in their own Biblical knowledge and think they are saved yet fail to put their faith into action by bringing that truth to others. They are just incapable of reaching the lost because they have no love for the lost like Billy Graham. Come the Day of the Lord we will see who casts the most crowns at Jesus' feet. thank you
For anyone still checking comments on this story may I make a recommendaton?
David DiCanio, a pastor from Littleton, CO, was interviewed on a national radio call-in show 5-11-2005 in which they play a sound clip of Billy Graham. This interview is on SermonAudio so you can listen to a very telling recording of Billy Graham in his own words.
I have never really listened to one of his messages . How does he come across ? Does he preach the gospel as it should be preached including repentance or is it easy-believism ? Can anyone fill me in ... Thanx .
Answer this. If someone takes Christ as their Savior and decides to remain in the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran or some other non Evangelical Church and not join an Evangelical Church does that mean that they can lose their salvation? The Bible states that when someone takes Christ as Savior that they are saved and the Bible does not give any other requirement for salvation such as joining an Evangelical Church like you guys are stating.
